Everything I read about this makes it worse ...WHAT? Everything I read about this makes it worse and worse. There was supposed to be more to that but the Kylo thing was too heavy? Let's not forget that in between there, we had plenty of humor to lighten the mood like when they land and Han's whole "That's not how the Force works!" and then him and Finn and "Escape now, hug later." There was plenty of time between those things to have a "heavy" moment there. And seriously, everything with Han and Leia left me so disappointed, especially the last part when I was 99% sure that that was the absolute last chance for us to see anything with them, and it sucked, it took me out of the movie for the next few minutes. WHY?!?!Zyrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04860113813294303312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591963962547240042.post-31219382585426500372015-12-23T08:05:26.675-06:002015-12-23T08:05:26.675-06:00Just a thought: You know how SW movies always hav...Just a thought: You know how SW movies always have these prophesies (I hope I spelled that right)? Maybe there's something about a Skywalker child (Jedi don't have kids) and he took the wrong one and it's Rey he wants. Maybe, because she's so strong in the Force, he's using Ben to get to Rey, or he picked the wrong one. Or maybe I'm completely wrong. I thought she and Harrison did well with the emotional beats and non-verbals in their scenes together. They still got chemistry, even after all this time.

There is a video on youtube of Carrie at the SW Celebration, backstage and she talks about how Leia is being written. She stated they ask her things and sometimes she feels she's not right for the part anymore. So it's a valid argument. Honestly, it's been so long since Fisher has actually acted who knows what she can pull off.

The only other way to go here is have Ren kill Leia. I don't know if any of you all saw V for Vendetta, but in it V kills one of the female doctors who experimented on him. He doesn't kill her violently, he kills her with poison in her sleep, and wakes her to talk to her. I could see a scene play out where Ren comes to Leia and they talk, and maybe Ren seeks to connect with her one last time. He gets angry and maybe stabs his mother through the back with the light saber. Which would make no one happy at this point.

I'm almost resigned to the fact they should have made these movies without the original 3. It's just been too long, they've got too old, George should have done this in 99 instead of making Jar Jar Binks. Now we'll have to set through the OT characters getting killed out one by one just so Disney can make billions and exploit SW. If they were going to start the movie apart, you had to bring them together to reconcile the conflict before sending our hero off to his fate. I read today that JJ said the last hug scene was supposed to be very emotional and loving, but he felt the next scenes with Han and Kylo were too heavy for the audience, so he changed H/L's scene to something lighter and familiar because that's how we'd remember them best. Partly (and maybe entirely), I think, it is because --as the Rinzler books show -- she is an actor who needs to understand A LOT about why her character is doing what she is doing. Some other actors can make up decent reasons to convince themselves about why their character is doing what they are doing evwn if the text gives them nothing. A lot of it was ...You're right, she didn't. A lot of it was because again, so many of her lines were like, exposition. She was good when she was mad at him, like telling him "Don't do that. Any of it!" or when she got mad at him when he said he wanted to help (I didn't really like the implication there, are we really to believe that after what he had done in the OT that he just stopped trying to be helpful after that?) but other than that... not so much. But she didn't have much to work with, either.

And really, who can even figure out Leia's motivations? She is practically a robot at this point. How much more crap can we throw at her and still have her walking upright let alone being a general? They never discuss it, yet he knows enough to tell Kylo that Snoke is manipulating him and as soon as he gets what he wants, he'll kill him. Han knows what's up.

I don't know which version of that I like better, him knowing or him not knowing. Paints Leia in a pretty bad light if she didn't tell him.

I just prefer the version where they have a couple of really cool, great kids and live happily ever after. They should've skipped ahead to their grandkids and maybe THEY could be evil but Han and Leia are already gone, lived to be 100 or so and died peacefully in their sleep. Yes, I'll take that version. Here's...I'm going to bank on manipulation.

Here's another excerpt from the same article:

I’ll just come out and say it: The book confirms that Han and Leia got married after the events of Return of the Jedi. Sorry Rob, your unhappy ending just got a little unhappier.

But on top of that, the book also reveals that Leia knew Snoke would try to turn Ben to the Dark Side—and kept this information from Han, thinking that as a non-Force user, he wouldn’t be able to help, or understand. Leia thought as the Force sensitive parent, it was her duty alone to protect Ben, but she ultimately failed him:

I was hoping that I was wrong, that it wasn’t true. I hoped I could sway him, turn him away from the dark side, without having to involve you.

I was afraid that your reactions would only drive him farther to the dark side. I thought I could shield him from Snoke’s influence and you from what was happening.

Her keeping the secret was part of why Han left her following Ben’s ascension to the Knights of Ren and the massacre of the new Jedi Order—because as in the movie, Han believed that it was his fault Ben turned.

Who started chopping onions in here?Sharonihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03029875334499250554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591963962547240042.post-28656438710609071042015-12-22T21:48:01.520-06:002015-12-22T21:48:01.520-06:00Yes, this is entirely possible that they already s...Yes, this is entirely possible that they already shot things with him meant for 8. But in the movie he didn't? I totally felt when watching it that Kylo was not conflicted when Han walks out there, he was manipulating him to get him to come close and make it easier, and perhaps even to make the betrayal that much worse than, say, shooting him from far away.

This whole thing would've been a better moment for me if there had been ANY evidence of Kylo's struggle. ANY. There wasn't any. There was evidence that he was still petulant and immature, but not that he was struggling. Except when he just SAID he was struggling, which was stupid because it never looked like it. There are so many things about this I don't like! WHY does he hate his father? From...Okay I retract my above statement re: Kylo.

From this article: The 11 Biggest Differences Between the Book and Movie Versions of The Force Awakens

"Ben Solo Really Hated Han... But Still Felt Bad For Killing Him.

Kylo Ren—a.k.a. fallen Jedi Ben Solo—and his emotinal trauma are some of the most intriguing parts of The Force Awakens. He’s really the first villain in the Star Wars movies that we’ve met, who is consumed by turmoil and his own nebulous rage. In the book, that rage is considerably less nebulous: Ben despised his father, finding the smuggler he really was could never match up to the expectations he had from Han’s legendary role in the Rebellion, a disappointment Snoke capitalized on.

In the movie’s most poignant moment, Ben draws his father (who, in the book, is revealed never to have seen his son as an adult until Ben takes his mask off in front of him) close with a touching declaration of his personal conflict, only to reveal he was drawing Han in to stab him through the heart with his lightsaber. In the film, it’s very clear that Ben is doing this to set himself firmly on the path to the Dark side, not on a redemptive arc towards the light—and even JJ Abrams has since said that it was meant to show there is no longer good in him.

The novel leaves Ben in a much greyer area after he kills his father though:

Following through on the act ought to have made him stronger, a part of him believed. Instead, he found himself weakened.

It’s an interesting distinction that leaves interpretations of the movie scene up for debate."Sharonihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03029875334499250554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591963962547240042.post-61157902589432161162015-12-22T21:06:55.077-06:002015-12-22T21:06:55.077-06:00This is a very good question and one I've been...This is a very good question and one I've been thinking about. Given what has happened, they really HAVE to have Leia get involved more in this and not just sit back and be the general leading stuff from behind the scenes.

BUT, is this something we can put on Carrie Fisher to pull off convincingly?
