It's really hard to explain. And was there a "crucible" even? Probably why he played his son in Mosquito Coast and later was the basis for artwork of Jacen on the Japanese New Jedi Order covers. I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on TV, did no one watch that? We had Sean Patrick Flanery as Indy in his late teens, and he tried, but I never really saw him as a younger Indy, for a start he looked nothing like Harrison, even had the wrong colour eyes.... Blasphemy! He wasn't anywhere near as good as River.

And Zyra, I couldn't agree more on the attack of the pretty boys. Where are the real men gone? You know, I'm scared now that young Han is going to be a Disney pretty boy. Ugh.claire1976https://www.blogger.com/profile/04285049568087268653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591963962547240042.post-69586805279624976932013-07-22T12:35:48.625-05:002013-07-22T12:35:48.625-05:00I agree, River Phoenix would've been awesome. ...I agree, River Phoenix would've been awesome. I remember reading once that he had mastered his "Harrison impressions" while working with him on "Mosquito Coast". He used to do it as a joke, little did he know, it would come in handy for "Last Crusade". :-)Stoned Rosenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591963962547240042.post-83738532217198347442013-07-22T10:26:58.701-05:002013-07-22T10:26:58.701-05:00Whatever, comment all you want. We don't care.

At this point even River Phoenix would be too old to play young Han Solo, if that makes you feel any better ;) I thought he did a great job in Last Crusade but if we're talking about a flashback sequence, that is one thing. But an entirely new movie is something else entirely and is going to be REALLY hard to pull off. Too many movies and spin-offs is going to just be Star Wars overkill. Yes, I really do think that it's possible for them to try and do too much. A new Star Wars movie every year? 12-year old me would be giddy with excitement, but now I can just see that there is no way they could be producing that much legitimately quality material, so inevitably a lot of it is going to come off as mass produced crap. I suppose I could be wrong about that, though.

I don't get the need for a Han Solo origin story, either. I kind of like a lot of his history being shrouded in ambiguity. He was in the Imperial Navy, he defied orders to rescue Chewie. He surely had some women along the way - although let's hope he was more like Indy in that way. You know, I'm sure he had fun with Willie and Elsa, but in the end they were barely a blip on the radar screen.

I just can't see anyone doing the role justice either without looking like they are trying too hard. Harrison IS Han Solo. Anyone else is just going to look like so-and-so trying to be Harrison Ford being Han Solo. And I just read something somewhere else talking about the dire shortage of "manly" actors out there and how somehow they've gotten lost in favor of pretty boys. I definitely agree and it is a real shame!Zyrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04860113813294303312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591963962547240042.post-23295013097576150732013-07-22T09:40:47.098-05:002013-07-22T09:40:47.098-05:00I feel kind of bad breaking this post by being the...I feel kind of bad breaking this post by being the 72nd comment!

That interview is too much. I've avoided commenting too much here because of my tendancy to squee all over the place, but now I just can't help it. Squeeeee!

As far as casting a younger Solo, makes me lament all over again the untimely departure of River Phoenix. I did some random surfing about him a few weeks ago, and, as opposed to my opinion at the time, I think he did a great job in Last Crusade. Sigh... I won't rule out, though, the miniscule possibility that someone else could possibly do the job: it's just highly unlikely.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16062372303336920420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591963962547240042.post-64218225150631689112013-07-21T17:19:06.245-05:002013-07-21T17:19:06.245-05:00I'm in total agreement. I personally don't think we need episode 7,8 and 9 either, but there you go. All of this just makes me incredibly nervous. They should have just left it alone. And yes, any of these new movies could introduce " canon" elements that will be a lot harder to ignore than the EU if we don't like them. On the upside, isn't Lawrence Kasdan writing the Han movie? That has to be one thing in it's favour, surely.

And you're probably right about him having a love interest even if it isn't Bria. Because there is always a love interest, right? Well nearly always. I guess it depends if they respect what Lucas always said about Han, that Leia was the first woman he ever loved. So any potential floozies he might have will mean absolutely nothing to him.claire1976https://www.blogger.com/profile/04285049568087268653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591963962547240042.post-25315875927315030762013-07-21T15:39:35.074-05:002013-07-21T15:39:35.074-05:00It's true....I *hate* the idea of someone else...It's true....I *hate* the idea of someone else playing Han. And truthfully, they could find a really talented, really decent person to play Han, but he'd still fall short in my eyes. Because he's Not Harrison. It's too weird!

I wish It was animated, too. Then Harrison could always voice it, but even if he didn't, it wouldn't be as offensive to me.

But I wouldn't get too excited about the lack of Bria. It would surprise me if they didn't give him a love interest of some kind for the movie. Although, I imagine it would be more of a "passing interest" ala Indiana Jones, than the "Bria-as-second-soulmate" we got in the EU. So yeah, that would be a definite improvement.....

But yeah, actually, this whole "origins" thing makes me nervous. Like suddenly we'll have inarguable "canon" stuff that we might not like and can't write off as easily as the EU. I hope they know what they're doing.....Stoned Rosenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591963962547240042.post-49179502660775719052013-07-21T10:49:02.510-05:002013-07-21T10:49:02.510-05:00What a fun little interview! I doubt there is a young actor anywhere on the planet who could do him justice, I just can't see me ever liking whoever they pick. But there is one good thing about a Han Solo origins movie, it would more than likely crap all over Bria because it obviously won't follow the EU. But I can't help grasping at straws. i just want his involvement to be "official"!

I did watch an interview clip last night from Comicon where they asked him about "Star Wars" (of course), and beyond his usual "can't talk about it...." blather, he talked about JJ Abrams, and how the franchise was in good hands with him, and should be good whether he's in it or not. And then the interviewer was like "Yeah, but come on, you're gonna be in it..." (or whatever) and Harrison responded by giving him a big exaggerated wink.

Which I interpreted as "Yes, but can't talk about it yet." Am I still grasping at straws? Ah, yes, my hands actually fit pretty well in his, too. I have really long fingers. I was by myself at that point, trying to act all cool like I wasn't super excited to be doing what I was about to do...

I had seen some news about him not answering Star Wars questions in spite of my hope that something might come of his presence at ComiCon, even though of course we KNOW his real reason to be there is Ender's Game... but still! I never give much thought to Harrison's hair. He changes it all the freaking time. Sort of long, kind of short, shaved head (that was for a role, though) slicked back (ick) parted on the right, parted on the left, sticking straight up, parted in the middle... If Mark and Carrie are still out of shape, Harrison doesn't have to get his Han hair ready yet. Although honestly I feel like I'd prefer it if old Han's hair was a little shorter. Old man long, white hair just looks... dirty. Or I guess scruffy, maybe it fits perfectly. I wonder if he'll wear the same outfit? I wonder if they will have him in it but try not to tell us so that it will be a surprise? It's almost a shame that due to the internet nothing can be a surprise anymore.
