May the Fourth Be With You!

Happy Star Wars day, everyone!  Would you have believed a year ago that we'd have just now found out some of the awesome news on Episode VII?  Me, neither.  Then again, two years ago I'm sure none of us had any hope that there might be another movie in the first place, so at least sometimes there are good surprises.  Anyone doing anything good to celebrate?  I'll admit, I unfortunately have had a crazy busy day and I've been traveling so I am not even wearing a Star Wars t-shirt.  Lame, I'm terrible this year.  But I'm at least relieved to have heard some movie news, and think it's just awesome that they are about to start shooting scenes with Han and Leia.  I mean, how amazing is that?

Anyone watch The Big Bang Theory?  I'm not an avid watcher and really only saw a whole episode probably like a year ago.  At which point I was like, how have I not been watching this show all along?  So much geeky goodness.  But anyway, last week they had a Star Wars Day themed episode.  It wasn't the greatest but there were a few funny references only fans like us would understand.  I've also heard that the show The Goldbergs, which is a family comedy set in the 80s, also had a Star Wars themed show I haven't had a chance to check out yet.  Honestly though, if you love the 80s, you should check that show out.  I've found it highly entertaining.  It's sort of like The Wonder Years but a little bit less serious.

Not much else to say here since we're all still hung up on casting news and such, but it didn't seem right to let such an important day pass without a post.  So, happy Star Wars day and May the Fourth be with you!

    1. I would've put a lot of money on there never being another one. At least as of two years ago.

  4. May the Fourth Be With You. :) Our minor league baseball team had SW night tonight, complete with music during the game, SW themed activities, and troopers from 501st and Rebel Legion. One of the troopers remembered me. Is that sad? :) Last year we went to a concert for the 4th and instead of troopers we got people in Halloween costumes and a Vader that looked like he was from Robot Chicken. Concert was good, but this was better SW. Good time.

  5. Sorry, late to chime in on this one. Hope everyone had a good SW day. I was very brave yesterday and wore a SW shirt in public for the first time in over 20 years. Normally they never go outside the house. But I decided to just do it, and be proud to be a geek :)

    2. Yay Claire, Wear it loud and proud. There are so many of us fangirls out there. I don't know if you have ever looked at Ashley Eckstein's Her Universe website (Facebook and Instagram). She has unleashed a female fan force that has spread like wildfire. Her fangirl of the day highlights regular women of all ages who are fans of sci-fi/comics. She has broken down the stereotypes of women can't like this kind of stuff. She has designed really cool clothes dedicated to us female fans. She is even hosting (along with The Nerdist and Hot Topic) a Geek Couture fashion show at SDCC this year. Her motto is Flaunt Your World. If you are ever nervous about flaunting your fandoms, I encourage you to check out her website or instagram. #flauntyourworld on instagram or under her website has everyday women showing off their fandom fashions (I'm the curly headed blonde usually in Doctor Who fashions). You are not alone. It's so cool to wear your favorite fandom shirts and fashions and random strangers start conversations with you. I've met some really incredible women through conventions, cosplay, online (instagram, same user name as here) and just by sharing our general geekiness. You are not alone....... there is another, and another and so on:) By the way on Ashley's Facebook and instagram she is highlighted another project by a friend of hers called LegionofLeia. Keep flaunting your world, it's so much fun.
I spent my Star Wars day planning out my daughter's senior year, both of us wore our Her Universe Star Wars tops.

  6. It is not unnoticed in L.A. that Star Wars Day and Cinco de Mayo are right next to each other, making for yet another day of tequila consumption :)

  7. For all the moms, Happy Mother's Day. Hope the kids do something nice. I was wondering if we wanted to talk about how Leia would be as a mom. We may have talked about that already, but the EU was so unkind to her, I thought I might be fun to think about what would Leia as a mom be and how awesome she would be.

    1. Yes, Happy Mother's Day to everyone celebrating it today. Our Mother's Day in the UK was back in March.

You are right, the EU was unkind to Leia as a mother. It took her children away to be raised by Winter, then she was portrayed as a bad mother who never had time for her kids, and then of course she lost her two boys so tragically.

We can but hope that the portrayal of Leia as a mother in Episode 7 will be awesome. I hope we get some great scenes of her with her daughter, and I'm convinced there are other Solo kids we don't know about it.

  8. I agree Leia was treated very badly as mother, woman, and all the way around.

I'm a little surprised that Zyra and Push haven't yet commented on the rumor that EVII will have Han Solo as one of the main characters and push Leia and Luke to the background....

  9. Hey hey hey! Rumor has it that two more women may be cast! http://clubjade.net/?p=58628

I also hate that rumor that Luke and Leia will be bit players. I saw some tweet that was basically, "my biggest fear for ep VII is that Leia will be in only one scene in which she tells Han and Luke to be careful." Hoping, though, that the reality will be way more kick-ass than that.

  10. I love that there may be more female parts... but I sure hope that Luke and Leia aren't sidelined characters.
