New Teaser Trailer Includes Han and Chewie!

I had actually expected this, but then seeing it was even more amazing:

Look!  It's Han and Chewie being Han and Chewie! It's Harrison Ford being Han Solo for the first time since 1983!  It's what I assume is Luke handing Leia a lightsaber! And a Star Destroyer wreckage! And a bunch of stuff with the new people I'm not sure whether or not I should be excited about yet!

The unfortunate thing is that it is still 8 months away and I'm still not sure if they are going to do terrible things that I don't want them to do, but just for now, I'll be excited about it.
I mean, look at that! It's Han and Chewie!

  1. can I just say right now that both times the Falcon soared into view in one of the trailers, the hair on my arms stood up? And I might possibly have peed myself a little bit when I heard Harrison say "Chewie"?

Honestly I don't know how it is possible that the entire room at Celebration didn't spontaneously combust when they showed this trailer.

    1. My reply didn't post. Anyway... First I said something about how it's possible the entire room did burst into flame because the live feed and reactions cut out before the trailer. And then I said something about how I knew that we were going to see Han, somehow I just knew it, but it still was beyond thrilling to actually SEE. And having a feeling it was coming, I could actually feel/hear my heart thudding louder and louder as the trailer played, just waiting to find out what we were going to see. So exciting! I'm sure in several months we will all laugh at how excited we were for these little scraps, but for now, it is very, very exciting.

I was there at Celebration -- we did spontaneously combust! everyone stood up and cheered when Han and Chewie appeared. They played the trailer twice for us.

After seeing JJ Abrams and K Kennedy in person , I am optimistic about this movie.

  3. I thought Luke was handing the light saber to Leia, too! And from the voiceover, Luke says the Force is strong in his family, so whomever he is talking to is obviously family! I'm still wary of the plot, but we'll see.

    1. After watching it again those look like female hands passing over the lightsaber, but I would put money on the receiving hands being Leia.

      Delete
    2. After freeze framing 13 thousand times, I think it's Leia (older hands, lower right screen) handing the saber to younger woman (left screen)

    3. Ah, okay. I watched the trailer again. When Luke is doing the voice-over and he says " . . . I have it . . . " they show him putting his hand on R2 and when he says " . . . my sister has it . . ." they show a woman's hand (I think) handing it to another woman (both wearing rings.) But when he says "sister", the person receiving the saber is featured. And when Han says, "Chewie, we're home." It looks like they are both pointing bowcaster and blaster at someone in the hull of the Falcon, so I think 'home' is the Falcon.
In any case, someone else in the family has the Force too.

  4. Slightly more informative than the first one. Nice to see Han and Chewie!

  5. Ok i'm repeating myself but I will pass out if Han and Leia aren't married in episode 7.

Disney/Abrams are going to great lengths avoiding any reference to them as a couple, which at first makes me think they are trying to cover up the obvious (yep, they're married and hopefully have kids)...but I'm starting to panic....It would ruin 4, 5, and 6 for me...give me comforting words please...LOL

    1. I wish I could, but this is my biggest fear as well. I could tolerate them doing just about anything else with this movie as long as this one simple thing is the way I want it to be. But I'm really worried it won't be. And that will just leave me too upset to enjoy anything beyond that. Seriously, just let them stay together! I mean, at this point it is whatever it is and can't change but I'm too scared to try and find out for sure either way because if they aren't at least I can live in denial for a little while longer.

Seriously, I'm not sure I can even enjoy fanfic anymore if they tell me that they aren't together. There is no good reason for them not to be together! The only good news we know for sure right now is that apparently Han and Chewie are still a couple, so there's that. I guess that's good. And Chewie didn't die a fiery and epic death.

Can you imagine if they make us wish that COPL was canon again?

      Delete
    2. I've got to stop panicing. No matter what Disney does, good or bad or somewhere in between for Han and Leia, pleeease don't give up on fanfic and creating the stories and conclusions that are more edifying. Just maybe Abrams will surprise us and honor the iconic couple instead. Maybe we are way-over thinking all of this...

      Delete
    3. I hope we are overthinking and will be laughing at ourselves in a few months about how worried we were. I remain skeptical though.

In the meantime, those of you who weren't there or even those of you who were, do yourselves a favor and go on youtube and find one of the videos that includes the fan reaction in the room when they showed it at Celebration. Listening to those people cheer was awesome, but the best thing ever was at the end, when they cheered for the Falcon and the screen went black and they all started clapping thinking it was over, then in the darkness suddenly you hear, "Chewie..." and everyone went immediately dead silent and then erupted when they showed Han and Chewie. I'm seriously getting choked up just thinking about it right now.

Whoever goes to see this with me when it comes out is going to have to be ok with me probably bursting into tears randomly throughout, because I think that is going to be happening. Can we get season passes to just keep seeing the movie over and over?

      Delete
    4. If they are not together, then episodes 4-6 mean nothing. Their falling in love was a huge plot point, otherwise, why have Han stick around? The whole "I love you" "I know" dialog is classic. I would think (hope) that the powers-that-be who have made this film understand how we fans feel about this relationship. Oh, you know they're going to make us wait and guess until December 18. I'd feel a whole lot better about all of this if they would just reveal that one little detail.

      Delete
    5. I totally agree Ruby Red; I wish they would provide that tidbit, but they will torture us until Dec 18...*cringe with a sigh*

As Zyra mentioned, at the least they'll probably have had a child or two (the latest teaser implies at least one, I think)

But to have them estranged/not married would tarnish the whole love story they developed in 4 - 6 and would be inconsistent with the idealist tone of Star Wars as a whole, IMO.

( I mean, we knew going into the prequels that Anakin turned to the Dark Side - we disliked him from the original episodes so his demise wasn't scandalous. )To have Han and Leia 'fail' would be a huge downer I think to most SW fans, and I can't imagine why Disney/Abrams would want to upset/piss off your fan base (which = $$$$)

Didn't Abrams say something to the effect 'we want the sw fans to be happy'...so i'm going to try to convince myself this lack of info. is a huge cover up for their obvious marriage-even if they still fight a lot ;)

      Delete
    6. That's what I was thinking too. Looking back at 4-6, to have them 'fail' would be a big F-U to the fans. The whole movie is a huge cover up - nothing has really been revealed about the plot at all. A few characters names but that's about it. We know that after about 30 years, the Force Awakens. This new trailer (and Mark Hamill from a previous interview) reveals that there is a grown offspring. And Mark also said that they (the Big 3) are not the stars of this movie, that they move the story along and lend an anchor to 4-6.
Just a note: I watched 'Super 8' today (JJ Abrams' homage to Steven Spielberg and George Lucas) and the guy gets it. You're right - I read that he wanted to make the fans happy. I hate all this waiting!

      Delete
    7. I re-watched Super-8 a couple of months ago and agree with you that he totally takes it back to classic Spielberg there. Except maybe excessive lens flare use, but it is one of the only movies I've seen made in the last 30 years that is kid-centric without being a "kiddie flick" you know? And just filmed in such a classic style that it looks like it very well could've been made in the early 80s. He has said things about not wanting to alienate fans, and he grew up as a huge fan himself, so let's hope he doesn't do anything terrible to our favorites. Aside from just the potential Han and Leia split, I'd heard some other rumors (before I stopped reading anymore rumors, so I don't know if they have been changed or anything) that just make it seem like their lives have been completely awful since the end of ROTJ. So it just feels like it kills the entire story arc of the OT if it was about them defeating the evil Empire and killing the Emperor and freeing themselves from the tyranny and finding personal happiness, and then we just find out, oops! Just kidding! It'd be like if the prequels had come out before the OT, and at the end of III the Empire has won and we came back on ANH and the Jedi were stronger than ever and the Republic was ruling the galaxy.

So much waiting! I want to know, but I also want the movie to be a surprise. So I don't know what to think other than to try and distract myself with other things for the next 8 months.

      Delete
    8. Boy I'm going out on a limb with speculation in the opposite direction now, but....

-abrams doesn't want to alienate fans.

-for Han and Leia to not be married and still together would be completely inconsistent with episodes 4 -6 and the natural progression of their relationship (I've said that like a 100 times, sorry....)and yes, Ruby Red, it would be a big F -U to fans...

-even though Disney/Abrams stated they've changed the EU to AU, but have not thrown it all away , it could actually be for a good thing...like Chewie not being killed, Jacen not going all evil, etc...

-since Han, Luke and Leia aren't supposed to be the main focus of episode 7, perhaps we meet just one, or maybe none of Han and Leia's children; but that doesn't mean Solo offspring don't exist or won't be mentioned in the film...maybe they'll cameo in the 3 EU offspring (or new ones) at some point during episode seven. That would be a logical way of still tying in all of the books that have been written over the years, since they aren't completely throwing them away.(i'd keep the kids, if I was them, but maybe a little happier storylines for them, lol)

My panic subsided as I saw some clips from TESB and ROTJ,and it seems so overwhelmingly clear...if Abrams is such a fan of SW, there's no way he would want to destroy or tarnish their iconic relationship...from a financial standpoint and a fan's standpoint as well(really, this is entertainment; I don't find separation and /or divorce entertaining in the least. I would imagine most SW fans would feel the same...)

just to be on the safe side, I will wait until the evening of Dec 18th and find out from the internet what the nuts and bolts are of the Force Awakens; if it stinks, i'll just avoid seeing it. My husband can take the kiddies to the theater if he wants to (LOL)

but I don't think that will be the case...

  8. Greetings guys, from Celebration :)

I'm here with Amara Z and we are having the best time. Sadly we didn't get into the Episode 7 panel to see the trailer (only those who waited all night did) but whilst we were standing in the huge line to get in everyone started streaming it on their iPads and phones and there was such a huge cheer when Han and Chewie appeared at the end of the trailer, it was awesome. Such a buzz seeing it surrounded by hundreds of fellow SW geeks. Just amazing atmosphere. Fan reaction to the trailer here is very positive. People are digging it :)

    1. Cool, I hope it continues to be tons of fun!

The internet reactions have mostly been positive, and I think I am far from the only one who freaking cried when I saw it. Of course, as always there are people who based on 2 seconds of screen time and three words are already accusing Harrison of looking asleep or "phoning it in" but I think those same people would say the exact same thing no matter what, so I don't care. I still just can't believe he's back and we saw him.

    1. Did any of you watch it? Some of you were probably physically there in the audience. I don't know why I always expect something different from Carrie, but every single interview type thing she has done for years I see the same sort of thing, her just being her wacky, crazy self and not really saying anything. I mean, it's a fun wacky and crazy, but somehow I always kind of hope for something a little more... I don't know, something. I really need to stop thinking it will be different and just enjoy her fun silliness! You could tell they were being careful not to ask her anything that might get her into trouble. So, some of you guys need to kidnap her and ask her all the questions we want answers to, because she'll totally answer them.

  11. OK I'm getting more confused;

someone directed me to an official statement regarding the EU, to which Kathleen Kennedy stated," in order to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience, Episodes 7 - 9 will not tell the same story in the post ROTJ EU. While the universe that readers knew is CHANGING, it is not being DISCARDED...and previous EU content will remain in circulation ..."

OK, so does that mean that Jacen, Jaina and Anakin Solo will still exist, but maybe just not part of the episode sevens' movie storyline? or am I grasping at straws here ...any thoughts? (sorry if this has already been discussed before; I'm new to this...lol

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's ok, I think it is going to be confusing for a lot of people. Here is a blog post I wrote about this when it was first being discussed: http://hanleiafanficwriters.blogspot.com/2014/01/star-wars-canon-about-to-get-major.html

The shortest answer is basically that the EU is now AU. The old "Expanded Universe" is now considered "Alternate Universe." I think "Legends" is the term they are using. So, saying they are not discarding it is just their way of being like, well, we'll still sell old editions of the books and we won't pretend that never happened, but the movies are not connected to them at all, and neither will any more books be moving forward. I was never clear on whether or not they would ever go back and write any more material within this "Legends" side of the story, but that seems unlikely to me.

So, do Jaina, Jacen and Anakin still exist? Well, probably not. They could be extra clever and sneaky and when we go to see the movie we'll find out "Rey" is actually Jaina and Adam Driver is Jacen or whatever, but that seems unlikely too. Those kids exist in the EU that we remember, but that is an alternate version of what happened after the movies. This is why we are so worried, they might tell us Han and Leia aren't married or even never got married in the first place, or don't even have kids! (I do think at the very least they will have had a kid or two, but the status of their relationship concerns me greatly)

So hopefully that clears it up.

    3. Zyra, sorry it took me so long to thank you for the link; I had a bunch of sick kids with the flu in our house...so, thanks a bunch!

I'm betting they are doing this to allow for some 'suspense' for episode seven....and now Boba Fett is alive too(like Chewie)...so they have been bringing characters 'back to life'

hopefully they will continue the positive changes...

  20. Sorry, Z. Still coming down from that high...;D

I originally planned on going the whole 4 days, but things changed so I was only there Friday and half of Saturday (which was mostly spent standing in line 4 hours for Ashley Eckstein's autograph).

Anyway, Friday! I specifically chose to go this day because I wanted to see Carrie. Got up bright and early and walked over to get in line. Anthony Daniels came out and would take pictures with some of the kids waiting in line, which was cool. I had wanted to go the Battlefront panel (it was the first panel of the day), but we were misdirected and didn't make it. While I absolutely had a blast, the people working there were utterly clueless. For the most part, they couldn't even begin to tell you where anything was located, and sometimes didn't even know what a certain line was for. Luckily I had printed up a map...but jeez.

So, we spent the morning wandering around for a while. Took some pictures with the Falcon setup and Rey's speeder. We wanted to see Ray Park's panel, but when we got over there, we noticed people were already lining up for Carrie's panel...and no way in hell was I missing it, so we got in line and waited for about 3 hours. It sounds bad, but it was pretty awesome chatting with other fans. Made the time fly. Eventually we go in, sat down, and I'm sure you've watched the video already. Always a blast, that woman.

After that, we got some 10 dollar hot dogs, and walked around some more. At that point, I was on complete sensory overload. So many things I wanted to buy, but everything was so damn expensive and I barely had enough to make the trip. We came across some retro stuff with a dollar bin and I bought some weird old Han Solo bookmark, some tiny little micro-machine sized Leia figures, and some little magnetic floating Cloud City toy I had when I was a kid. Score, right? :P

Finally, my friend wanted very badly to see Revenge of the Sith in 3D, so we got in line for that. Another 3 hours later, we were in. Never been much of a fan of 3D, but it was pretty good. Plus, they brought out Ian McDiarmid and Dennis Muren to introduce it. They were playing A New Hope (2D) afterwards but we were all pretty beat by then, so we went back to our hotel.

On Saturday, while I went by myself for a single autograph, my friends wandered around Anaheim and came across a shop where some artists were setup doing art and selling their work, so I ended up walking over there afterwards. They had some of James Hance's stuff out (you've probably seen his Up/Han and Leia mashups), but I had a nice chat with a guy named Danny Silva. He had some Star Wars stuff, amongst other comic book characters. I ended up buying an awesome original Hoth Leia piece from him. Very cool.

And that's about it. One of the coolest trips of my life, I'm so glad I got to go!

    1. Thanks for the recap! Sounds like there is a LOT of waiting in line at these things and that it is really difficult to get to see everything you actually want to see, huh? That sounds kind of frustrating. Glad you got to see Carrie though. You've seen her a bunch of times, haven't you? I did see Wishful Drinking twice so I have that going for me. Magnetic Cloud City? From Taco Bell in the late 90s? I have that :) And $10 hot dogs? Jeez.

It almost sounds funny to skip watching ANH but... well, it's not like you've never seen it before. I bet those movies in 3D are pretty cool though, even if the movies themselves aren't great. ROTS is of course by far the most tolerable. I have seen that artwork and it is beyond adorable. Someday you'll have to share some of your artwork there :)

      Delete
    2. Oh yeah, it was frustrating. And damn, I expected a mass of people, but I've never seen THAT many people wandering around such a large area. It got even worse on Saturday. There were lines for the escalators so they wouldn't break.

Yeah, I saw Carrie one other time for Any Questions. And yeah! The Taco Bell toys! Those were awesome.

Lol, I know, I wanted to stay but I was so tired and the chairs were not comfortable. What I really enjoyed was just the audience reacting to the film. You're surrounded by all of these people who love the movies...nothing else like it. I remember one dude out of the whole room clapping when Anakin kills the younglings, and some other guy yelling, YOU'RE SICK!

Another plus was that they played the trailer for us on the big screen. So beautiful, aaah!
