April Fool's Day Awesomeness

Okay, so my mother-in-law showed up yesterday for a surprise WEEK long visit and I'm late on the book review for today.  Believe me, I'd rather have read Crystal Star three more times than to have this happen to me, but I didn't get to choose my poison.  Hopefully I'll have the review up by tomorrow but in the meantime, JZHanFan shared this with me and saved the day for today's post.  I'll have to supply the URL and then you guys can come back to comment.  Enjoy:

  1. I was well prepared for some SW silliness today, as there's normally something. This was pretty funny!!

Also of note, but be quick because it will probably vanish by tomorrow, is a new wookieepedia page about Chewie's long lost mother.....and she wears a bikini!!

The joke that everyone is falling for is that Wookieepedia is merging with the SW Fanon Wiki, so from now on you won't know what's "canon" and what's some crap that someone just made up for the hell of it, and already there are silly joke pages appearing on there. Some people on the wookieepedia talk pages are taking this far too seriously!!

The Crystal Star is actually a very appropriate book for today, because it's a total joke!!

    1. I saw that on wookiepedia, but didn't know what fanon was for it to sink in. I figured it was April Fool's day joke, especially when I saw some of the things at the bottom of the page. That's funny people believed it.

  2. This totally made my day this morning and of course I thought of y'all immediately. Although it took me several minutes to stop laughing long enough to forward the link :-)

    1. Thanks for sharing that with us, Jz. Although I'm very surprised that more people haven't commented on it.

Hope you're not getting too much grief from the mother-in-law Push!!

    2. I've been gone all weekend. I haven't had a chance to read the link yet. I always hated April Fool's day, because I am always one of those "gullible" types. I would have to agree about The Crystal Star being a joke. Good luck with your family visit Push.

  3. Just found out that the Fate of the Jedi Epilogue joke WAS actually written by Tim Zahn. I thought that saying it was by him was just part of the joke, but he did actually write it! He obviously has a great sense if humour! Nice one, Tim.

  4. Oh, how I wish all of this was true. I love how he almost pokes fun of himself by just adding extra vowels to all of the names of the clones. It also makes me remember last year when they almost had me when they told us that the holiday special was going to be released on blu ray. Always fun to see this sort of stuff :) But what a great excuse to start the EU over! It's not too late!

  5. LOL, the Holiday Special on bluray. Now there's a thought....just imagine how much worse Mark Hamill's make-up would look in HD.

  6. I haven't seen the holiday special. I may have as a kid and now blocking it. Is it that bad?

    1. Oh, you don't know the holiday special? You know how some stuff is so bad it's good? Oh, this is so far beyond that. It is excruciatingly painful to watch. It is one of the worst things you've ever seen, almost to the point that you'd think they purposely tried to make the worst thing they could possibly make. You feel physically uncomfortable at times. Seriously, you just feel so bad for the actors and it makes you think that it is also probably the source of Carrie's cocaine troubles. It only aired once and George pretends it doesn't exist. This is the man who is proud of Jar Jar Binks. You can watch it through various sources online. I think it's on youtube. I managed to watch it in its entirety exactly once. There are a few scenes that are like 5 minutes of Wookiees talking to each other... without subtitles. Mark is wearing eyeliner, Leia sings lyrics to the Star Wars theme (at least she can actually sing) and Han shares meaningful looks with Wookiees, but at least he looks super hot, as usual. I know, you'd think finding more footage of all of them from the original Star Wars era would be awesome no matter what it was. Oh, it's SO awful!

      Delete
    2. I was afraid of that. I'm not sure I want to cringe through the whole thing or hear lyrics to the theme (unless it's Bill Murray). I have seen Pigs in Space though. :) That was funny.

      Delete
    3. It is nowhere near as good as Bill Murray's version. And Pigs in Space was also great. No, this is like neither of those things. Seriously, you might have to pay me to actually sit through it in its entirety. I have played the whole thing but there were times it was like I couldn't look directly at it because it was so awful. I dare you to watch just a little bit. I'll even let you choose any piece of it you want, not just Wookiees talking to each other.

    4. Maybe after finish watching some Rboto Chicken SW. :)

    5. Wow. At least Carrie can sing. The opening alone had me cringing. But now some of Blue Milk Special makes sense. When Malla calls Luke looking for Han and Chewie and he says he'll break out his Han Solo locator.

Yeah, don't think I'll be making it thru all of this particular video.

  7. By the way, my husband sent me this little gem earlier today. I don't think it's a joke either. And here I was thinking Kinect Star Wars looked cool. You may want to read the article first in case you'd rather not watch the awfulness in the video.

    1. No, that really isn't a joke, that game was released yesterday apparently. Most of the game involves being a Jedi and piloting podracers, but the dance bit is thrown in for a bit of a laugh.

I've seen the Holiday Special once, and trust me, that is enough!! It's wrong on so many levels. Isn't there a scene with Chewie's Dad, Itchy, lusting over a holo of a human dancer? I remember forwarding through a lot of the musical bits, although I did watch Carrie's song. I have a vague recollection of a cute moment between Han and Leia near the end, around the time she sings, and when Chewie wears his red DRESS, they share a look, or a smile or something that made me go Awww. Its been years since I watched it, but I may have to go check for that bit now because it's got me thinking.

    2. But did they have to have Han dance? I can think of so many other things I'd rather see him do.

The special is on YouTube, but I think in sections. So is Pigs in Space, which is still funny.

Watching Robot Chicken last night and saw the storyboard for where Leia tells Han she's pregnant and Han jumps in the carbonite chamber. Funny.

    3. I would have loved to have seen that skit included in Robot Chicken. I wonder why they didn't use it?

I can think of "things" I would much rather see Han doing too :-)

I acquired my copy of the Holiday special through "other means" a few years back. It looks seriously bad on a huge tv I can tell you. I would imagine it looks better on you tube because the picture would be smaller, so that is probably the best way to view it.

    4. I'll have to go back and look, but don't think they said why. Lot of things were cut due to time. There is a comic on f----yeahhanandleia from last week that is a very similar joke. Had my husband laughing.

It's horribly grainy on YouTube or pixelated I should say. It's not the clearest of videos. And I laugh at the list of stars. Did they just ask everyone to be in it? And I think it wasn't so much eyeliner on Mark that was so bad. It was that haircut. It looked odd.

      Delete
    5. Don't remember that on F*** Yeah Han and Leia, I'll have to go look again. There was a funny t-shirt they had the other week. It says "Han shot first" and there's a picture of a very pregnant and pissed off Leia, who's saying "Again!" I loved that.

Yeah, Mark's hair was another very odd thing.

    6. Look for diary of a crazed mimbanite. From last week. Multi panel black and white comic.

  8. Zyra: What was that link you had sent me where that guy narrates the special. It actually makes it watchable. I remember laughing my a$$ off!

And OMG, Han danncing. All I can say is Oh, My. I had already seen slave Leia dancing. Have y'all seen that???

    1. You posted the link, didn't you? I got an e-mail alert for the comment and it says in our comments sections it's there, but I don't see it?

If it doesn't show up, look up "that guy with the glasses" or the nostalgia critic and it's a great way to watch it because it's like having someone else there to articulate all of the horrid things going through your head while you watch it. He does a lot of other reviews that are quite fun, too.

    2. Never mind, couldn't see the comments before but right after I posted this they came up.

  9. I know what you mean about Han dancing. Where's a neutralizer when you need one? I doubt he would ever dance that way.

I've seen the Lego slave Leia dance. Does she dance in kinect too? Do share!

    1. Haha, the first time I witnessed the Kinect dancing was with slave Leia. I don't doubt the reason they used her to show off the awful dancing part of the game! But there's something disturbing about seeing Han come up out of the carbon freeze chamber and start dancing. It's also just plain embarrassing...I'm so getting it.

Oh and that Robot Chicken skit, they totally should have used it. In fact, I remember them remarking that it never should have been cut.

    2. That was totally disturbing about the chamber. Yikes.

  12. Thanks, Push! I'll have to check out the holiday special at home.

Oh, but dancing slave Leia. Oh, my. At least she got her belly dance on around 2:50. :) Shouldn't they have given her a really hot song to dance to wearing that outfit?

  13. I flicked through the Holiday Special again looking for the cute Han and Leia bit, which I obviously imagined cos I can't seem to find anything that could be it. What struck me though is just how touchy feely Leia is with Chewie, particularly when he's wearing his red dress. She can't keep her hands off him, and looks at him so lovingly. It borders on disturbing!!

    1. BORDERS on disturbing? Everything in that special is way over the border on disturbing. No, there's not really any cute Han and Leia in it, there is just that one really good behind the scenes photo from it that I only saw for the first time quite recently. The whole thing is just SO bad. I mean, they barely even try. I love when Han "fakes out" the stormtrooper by slightly moving his body one way so he just falls off the balcony.

      Delete
    2. OK, so it IS disturbing. I'm actually wondering though how much Lucas was involved in this. His name does not appear on the credits. One of the guys who "wrote" it is Pat Proft, who created the Police Academy series. We know George does some crazy stuff, but maybe he shouldn't take all the flack for this.

Oh I know the behind the scenes pic you mean. Carrie is sat gazing at Harrison resting her chin on her hand. That's the only one I can think of.

      Delete
    3. I think he took his name off of it before it aired. Again, this is the man who thinks the prequels are great. Funny, once I looked up the writers and amazingly, I'm pretty sure all of them are working, and actually working on legitimate stuff. They must've all been swimming in a sea of cocaine.

And yes, that was the pic I was referring to. I do like that one.

    4. He removed his name from the credits before it aired? So he must have hated it from the beginning. I thought his disdain was only something that happened in hindsight. Interesting.

I read an interview with Carrie once and she says she doesn't remember anything about making the Holiday Special. Maybe she was also in the sea of cocaine at the time too. She certainly looks spaced out during a lot of it.

Yeah that is a good pic. She's looking at him in a kind of "I totally wanna jump your bones" kind of way.

    5. Yeah she is. But who wouldn't?

  14. OMG, we have more slave Leia dancing on YouTube. And on f---yeahhanandleia. The lyrics alone make it worth it. She's dancing to a version of Genie in a Bottle and they mention Han in the song. And there's a couple of moves that are more revealing.

    Here's the YouTube link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfYZwQ0bOCA

Is it sad this kind of made my morning? This and the joint story update. :)

    1. Yeah, I watched that on YouTube last night. It certainly raised a smile :)

Oh and whilst on the subject of F*** Yeah Han and Leia, check out that gorgeous sketch of them kissing. That one was posted at Nerfherders Playground a few years back. Great artist.

    2. I'm still geeking out about it. Love a song with a good beat and that one had me laughing.

I love that sketch of them!

  15. Sorry if beating this one to death but found another good one. I got the game for my birthday and yes, I've been dancing. It's actually kind of fun. Then I pulled up this one song and ended up on the floor I was laughing so hard. It was Han and he was practically doing the hustle. Oh, no no no! It's really bad. I may never keep straight face through this one. I can live with Lando dancing like that but Han? Wow.

  16. LMAO!!! Amara, I love that!!!! Kind of wishing I had an Xbox now, it looks like a lot of fun.

On the subject of laughing, last night they had all 3 SW Robot Chickens on tv back to back, so I had a robot chicken-othon. Great stuff!! I just wish Han and Leia featured more.

  17. I hear you on Robot Chicken. We should suggest to them to do a Han and Leia special. That would be funny.

    1. They are doing another Robot Chicken apparently, described as "more linear" than the other ones. So we may get some more of our two favs in that.

    1. Lol. Some of it is kind of fun. But Han starts doing disco or moving his hips, I bust up laughing.

    2. Heh I got the game too. Han's hip action is pretty hilarious. The jetpack move is ridiculous. I actually haven't danced much, I've just been getting family and friends to do it so I can laugh at them.

The funniest thing I have seen was Vader and the Emperor dancing.

      Delete
    3. Han's hip action is funny, especially on Kashyyyk. I can think of much better use of those hips. I'm liking some of the music though. And at least I'm getting some exercise. :)

    4. You can think of better use of Han's hips?

      LOL, yeah so can I! ; )
