Happy 3rd Anniversary to HanLeiaFanFicWriters Blog!

Zyra and I started this blog on March 10, 2011. Seeing as it was me who talked Zyra into starting it, I feel sufficiently guilty that I have all but abandoned her in taking care of it. I have all sorts of reasons, as I see from recent comments everyone does, but in the end, it is - no matter how you slice it - the comments that make it worth the while so shame on me for contributing to the problem. I'll admit that I counseled Zyra to just stop the blog (don't shoot me) only because I knew how much it meant to her (and means to her when no one comments) and I haven't been around to help.

Rolling up on this anniversary made me think of the reason that I wanted to start this whole thing. At the time I was fully engrossed in this fandom and writing up a storm and I just wanted somewhere that I could find other people that shared this passion that had awakened inside of me. And it certainly has been that. And even though I haven't been contributing, I still pull this Site up as one of my daily visits if at all possible just to see what all you other Han/Leia devotees are up to. So, with that being said, I'm really glad that Zyra didn't take my advice and scrap this whole thing. And in a New Year's resolution sort of way, I'm committing myself to post on here more often.

It does seem that after so many years, I mean it's only been about 5 years since I totally immersed myself into this fandom. Five years ago I didn't even know Princess Leia's last name. And yet, sometimes I feel like I've had every discussion possible regarding this fictional character that can be had. Several years of complete obsession will do that to a person, I guess. But scrutinizing that statement I have to think that it just isn't possible. There are people who have been into this fandom for decades and still find new topics to explore, still read someone's offhand comment on a topic and think, "Hmmm, I never thought of it that way before." So, I do believe that we still have lots more to talk about.

I like the "what if" questions in the post above. I also have a curiosity building around my own "headcanon" on Leia and Han's childhood. Leia's specifically at the moment. I wish I had never seen the prequels for the sole purpose of having that blank slate to conjure up my own version of events since George did such a horrific job of it. For one thing, I think Leia's mother lived long enough for her to know about her and remember her (i.e., her line in the movie regarding her "real mother"). And that just makes me wonder how that all played out. How did she die?

Anyway, just thought I would finally put a post out here as sort of an Anniversary present to Zyra. I don't know if I can promise to continue the book reviews, although it is nice to hear that your guys appreciated them - they are really time consuming! But I'll poke my head in more often.

Happy Anniversary to all of you! :-)

  1. Happy Anniversary to the blog! And really good to see you Push. I miss you weighing in on things, but I know how real life can get in the way. But you are definitely missed.

I'm really grateful to have a place where I can come and get my Han/Leia fill. And probably the best when we can get a lot of discussion going on. That's when it's the most fun to me. I do like your what if and wondering about Leia's childhood. Very interesting topic. I had another set of thoughts myself today about why we tend to make Mon Mothma out to be a bad guy. I think we might have discussed it in another post maybe even the COPL review. I'm sure part of it is because of COPL, but not sure why we think she was really hard on Leia, especially since that book is so horrifc. Just making me think about what were people's reactions to Leia marrying Han. I'm sure it wasn't easy and not everyone was happy about it, but there had to be some people who were and how did they deal with all that.

Thank you ladies for sticking with it and for all your hard work.

And I like the background pic. Too bad it's not of him in his speedo, but ESB gear always works. :)

    1. I not sure why we're so hard on Mon Mothma in COPL, either. Everybody knows the true villain in that book is Leia ;)

  2. Has it been 3 years already? Anyway, Happy Anniversary Blog. And Push, I'll reiterate what Amara said and say it's really good to see you, and even if you don't start posting as often as some of us, it's still great to have you stop by :) Oh and if you picked out that background pic, it's a damn good choice ;)

This is still the best place on the net for for us H/L geeks to get our fix, and I sincerely hope it continues for a long time to come. Appreciate the time and effort that goes in to keeping it going.

And Amara, that is a great idea for a topic :) Good thinking.

  3. Aw, thanks for the anniversary present. I didn't get you anything ;)

Yes, Push very enthusiastically was like, "Let's do a blog?" And I was like, "Really? Are you sure?" And she was all, "Yes! It'll be so fun!" And I was like, "Cool, let's do it!" Almost everything on the blog was her idea. Push's overwhelming enthusiasm when we started talking was almost extreme. I'd never seen anyone write so much. Or read so many Star Wars books in such a short period. (I had read the same books over the course of about 15 years when we started talking, and she was caught up in a few short months)

I really cannot believe it's been three years of this already. It's been a lot of fun and helped create a nice little community once the posting over at NHP all but ceased. Hopefully we'll see a resurgence of interest when Episode 7 picks up steam... if they ever start shooting, because at this point we've been so deprived of information I almost feel like it's not actually going to happen. But anyway...

Special thanks to those of you who have been with us all along, although that's not many of you. Quite a few who used to post regularly have moved on, but are missed. But let's keep things going!

  4. All I can say is "thank god for this place!" Seriously, when I first slipped back into the fandom a couple of years ago after a long absence, I was sad to find that all the old haunts had disappeared. But at the very least, there was this blog! And it was great to still have a place to chat with people who shared this very random interest with me. So, yay for that!

So thanks for keeping this place alive, and giving us fans a place to "hang out".

On a random note, I wonder why I decided to come back after all that time. I can't remember what the "spark" was. Did I just wake up one morning and go "Huh. Han and Leia. I kinda miss them…." or what? I couldn't tell you. And it wasn't the Episode VII news, I actually slipped back into all this a few weeks before that, so I don't know….I wish I could remember. I dunno, it's funny how that works. But either way, it's been fun being back. :-)

    1. I'm so glad you came back and had somewhere to go. And seriously, I REALLY hope that you finish your story. It would be tragic if you didn't. But you know that already, because I already wrote a post about that ;)

I never remember what brings me back, either. My interest level does move in cycles. I'd take longer times away in the past before the blog and before Push and I started talking and keeping each other into it. But then a new book comes out or something, and I need to come see what other people think. So that's definitely fun.

  5. Thanks for providing a space for us to live vicariously through Our Heroes. I know blogs are time eaters, and I appreciate all that is done.

  6. Happy anniversary to the both of you, and so many thanks for everything you do. I remember finding this blog for the first time and thinking, "oh my gosh, there are people out there who are into this too and even write about it!" It took me a long time to get up the courage to comment here, then to start beta reading, and then to write, and the whole time you guys have been here. So thank you, and here's to new stories and new discussions!

  7. Happy anniversary and thanks for making this blog, Zyra and Push. I think there are a lot of us who drift in and out of fandom every few years, so don't feel bad for letting real life or other interests get in the way.

I think Ep 7 is really going to shake things up. For better or worse, I do not know, LOL.

PS isn't it weird that Chewie wears clothes for the one time in his life in the Holiday Special!

    1. It's a ceremonial robe, so it's just for show and part of the ritual. Otherwise it is naked Wookiee, all the way. ;)

I agree that soon we're probably going to have a lot more to talk about. If they EVER tell us anything about Episode 7!
