Han Solo Spin-off Movie Officially Announced

This sort of falls under the category of "not really news" to me, since I'd fully expected this for a long time, but now it has become "official."  http://www.starwars.com/news/christopher-miller-and-phil-lord-to-helm-han-solo-anthology-film?linkId=15374280

What does everyone think of this?  Personally, my first thoughts are that I really don't even want to think about any further Star Wars movies until I find out what happens in Episode VII, at which point I can more adequately decide how much thought or consideration I need to put into these other films. If Episode VII is terrible or takes things in a direction I'm not happy with, I will be a lot less inclined to give much mental energy to any other movies, because I'm going to expect to be woefully disappointed. Of course there is the possibility, however remote, that I get fully engaged and sucked right back in, at which point I can go back to worrying about all these new movies.

If I do give myself the opportunity to think about this, again I'm, sadly, left with mostly negative thoughts on the idea. First and foremost: NOBODY wants to see anyone but Harrison Ford playing Han Solo. I honestly think that even whatever actor gets cast in this role, no matter how good for his career it might be, will still kind of secretly wish that Harrison could somehow go back to 25 and play this role himself. This is one of the most iconic roles in cinema history, and much of that is because Harrison Ford completely embodied that role. He WAS Han Solo in such a way that I don't think anyone can duplicate. And would we want him to? I'm wondering even how it will be approached. Whether we'll be left watching some young actor spending 2 hours doing his best Harrison-as-Han impression, or if he will try to make the role his own. I almost hope for the latter, but at the same time, then do we really accept him as Han? This just seems like a no-win situation.

Another thing I don't like about it is that I've actually always kind of preferred that Han's past be left shrouded in a bit of mystery. I don't necessarily want to know exactly what happened in his youth, how he grew up, what happened to his parents. While I enjoyed reading those things in the AC Crispin Han Solo trilogy (mostly enjoyed - Bria excepted) I actually feel like something is taken away from the character a little bit if we know everything about his past. Sure, little things like how he got the Falcon, or how he met Chewie might be fun to watch, but I don't know if I want them to try and work backwards and fit all of the puzzle pieces into what made him what we saw in the original trilogy.

Lastly, similar to my worries about the new movies furthering the story compared to the now-discarded EU, I worry that they will give him a back story that I don't like and would rather not see. To explain further, it is sort of like how I worry they might change Han and Leia's relationship in the new movies. We have all spent years complaining about COPL and how we wished it didn't exist, but it's quite possible we will wind up hoping that we could go back to a time in which that is exactly what happened to Han and Leia, because at least at the end of that horrendous book, they did, in fact, get married. And then they stayed married. And in this case, for years we also complained about Bria Tharen and how much we hated her. It is entirely possible that this new movie might give us a new background (random wife from the comic, anyone?) that will make us very much wish we could have Bria back. At least Bria had the decency to die before Han met Leia!

I'd be really curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this. I fully admit it makes me sad that I'm not simply jumping for joy at every Star Wars announcement, but I am only left worrying for all of the worst possibilities. You would think that I would be excited about all of these Star Wars movies coming out, but I really haven't been at all. You can even go back to the first mention on the blog of Episode VII nearly 3 years ago, I wasn't excited then, either!  And I'm still not sure if I should be.

In brighter news, apparently there will be some Episode VII fun at Comic Con this weekend, so let's hope that brings some good news.

  1. I'm not really interested in the prequels because no one could ever play Han Solo like Harrison Ford has. He OWNS the role. Someone could imitate him, get close to his portrayal, and even act just like him, but that person couldn't bring EXACTLY what Ford brought to it. I'm not really interested in them possibly changing Han's backstory in relation to anything that deals with Leia, unless that do something funky like him having met her earlier in life and not realizing it or something like that. I'm not interested in reading about him with past loves. Even if a new actor plays Han differently, say "shyer," because Han's younger, everyone will have Ford's portrayal in their heads, naturally. I don't wish anything bad on it, however.

I just wish that we wouldn't have to wait so long for news about whether Han and Leia are together in the new movie. So silly to me. Sometimes I wonder if the secrecy is there because they aren't, and Mr. Abrams knows that many fans will be disappointed.

  2. Kind of Han goes the way of the midiclorians? We want the Force and our lovers to have a bit of the unknowable about them ... We like a little mystery, the ever present chance of discovering something new about Truth or True Love. Actually, I came to check that the "news" was being discussed here while I'm musing an update to a sex, bondage, and consent article. As always, fandom musing helps me focus. Back later.

    1. Yes, I completely agree with the midichlorian comparison and actually it is something that I had thought of and meant to mention in terms of things that should remain a mystery. Talk about an unnecessary explanation that completely ruined something that was such a cool, mysterious thing. There was no reason for that, and if anything, it removed a lot of the coolness about the Force. I don't want to know where it comes from.

Like you said, I like the "unknowable" side of Han's story. Perhaps there will still be some things left to mystery. I mean, even in the Han Solo trilogy books, we still never learned who Han's parents were and how he wound up on the streets. So there was a little bit left to mystery. Maybe it will be fun if they don't go too far back and mostly only show us things from later on, but still.

And we just know that this "wife" scenario is probably going to be included, right? Ugh. Still 3 more weeks until we find out how that goes.

    2. I share the same sentiments as you Zyra, so all I can say is ...wtf; someone else trying to assume the role of Han Solo??!!..imo, that would crash and burn, miserably...

I just want Han and Leia together, in a decades-long marriage with kids in episode vii, even if they are squabbling, at times - ;)...

  4. I actually have the exact same feelings and thoughts on the matter as you, Zyra. So I don't have much to add. But I'll say this: When I first heard the news it was like a punch in the gut. I literally had a Vader "Nooooo!" moment.

So, yeah. I hate this. I really, really, hate this. And I'm MUCH more optimistic than you about Episode VII. But someone else playing Han Solo? Oh, hell no!

    1. Right? Why am I not excited about more Star Wars movies? Why am I worried they are going to ruin one of my favorite things? And why do we need to know the history of Han Solo? Can't they just write us some new books?

For the record, I wouldn't want ANY of the big three recast for younger versions. The only way I'm on board with this is if somehow we can time travel back to 1970, shoot it with Harrison as he was then, and use that footage. Sadly, that probably will not be happening.

I do admit they did a superb job in casting young Obi Wan, and Ewan McGregor was a major bright spot in the otherwise crappy prequels, but I wouldn't say that Alec Guiness as Obi Wan was anywhere near as "iconic" nor do I think he truly embodied the character. Not that it wasn't a great performance, just that I can look at a role like that and believe that someone else could take it on and do a great job with it. I do not feel that way about Han. Or Leia, either. I still feel like it would be impossible to find another 19-year old actress, a tiny, short one at that, who could show up on screen and boss her rescuers around and be totally believable.

      Delete
    2. Agreed about the Big 3. They own their roles. No one has ever done Superman like Reeve did. He owned it. Still does, no matter who they put in that role. Routh was good, though.

  5. Unless they have secretly cloned Harrison in some lab somewhere and have a younger version of him prepped and ready to go for this, then there's absolutely no way they should do it.

Ugh and just imagine if they put his "wife" in there and he has better love scenes with her than with Leia. No thanks.

    1. Yeah, I remember saying a year or two ago when these rumors first started circulating, that the only way I'd be okay with it, is if we managed to build Doc Brown's time machine, took it back to the set of "American Graffiti" and grabbed Harrison Ford to shoot it.

I doubt they've managed that, so yeah. not excited about this at all.

Oh, but I'm not worried about the "wife". I bet she won't be in it. A gf? Yes, probably. But no wife.

      Delete
    2. Exactly. And what if they put a young Leia in there and they had love scenes? Oh, God...

      Delete
  6. I'm really curious if anyone is truly excited about this, except maybe the directors and producers involved. I know several other fans who do not have our extreme Han and Leia bias who also aren't excited, don't want to have every little detail filled in, and don't want to see anyone else try to play Han.

I even almost wonder if I'll want to see this one in the theater. Just the idea of it almost feels to me like a cheap, knock-off Star Wars movie, if that makes sense.

And Claire, I had definitely thought of that, too, about potential love interests. I would be fine with them showing him having flings like, say, Indy had with Willie or Elsa. He had fun, but there was nothing lasting there. I don't want to see elaborate love stories in his past.

I am definitely curious though to see how young they will go for whoever plays him. Harrison was barely 34 when he shot ANH. I just have a hard time seeing how a baby-faced twenty-something can carry a whole movie himself and have the Han persona. I simply don't think it can be done.

  7. When the "Han Solo trilogy" books came out I remember being disappointed at (amongst other things) that the books didn't include the 2 things that most people would be most interested in hearing about early life of Han Solo: how he met Chewie and what happened when he was in Imperial Navy. The first book ended with him joining the Navy and the second one started with him already out of the Navy and with Chewie. I think I remember at that time there was an announcement that those events were off limits to any book/comic/etc writer. Will this be what this new movie is about?
If it is I can see the producers not able to resist having Darth Vader be in the movie and I can't see how Artoo could be worked into it, therefore making it the first pointless Star Wars theatrical movie.

    1. I had completely forgotten that several major plot points from Han's past were put squarely in the "off limits" category. And like you said, some of them were the most interesting parts. Ok, so maybe I might like to watch Han meet Chewie, that could be sort of cool.

This reminds me, you know the other way I could be on board with this? If it is animated. Then we just animate Han Solo so he looks like young Harrison, Harrison can do his voice, the Lego Movie guys are working right in their best element and we don't have to worry about this recasting Han Solo nonsense.

Lol to first pointless Star Wars theatrical movie.

  8. I'm on board with the "let's build a time machine and bring a young Harrison Ford to be in this movie" option!
I think I could accept the adventures of a teenage Han Solo (like I enjoyed River P. in the last crusade) but it is unlikely to happen.
Go check this fun link. We are not alone wishing for a young HF playing Han Solo again.

    1. I'm still irritated that somehow we haven't worked out a cloning machine. Then we could all have our own Harrison Fords. I might buy into a teenage Han if we go back far enough, that could be kind of cool. This seems like something that will bring us right up to the movies almost, for some reason. Interesting list but I mostly was just shaking my head, no! Also, can we please stop with all of this Anthony Ingruber praise? The guy does a nice impersonation of Harrison Ford. He did a decent job in Age of Adeline. But doing a good impression of Harrison Ford does not give you the screen presence to carry a movie as would be required, nor does it necessarily mean you can act.

That would be freaking awesome though if they just had him do it and used their fancy de-aging magic. It is sort of incredible what we can do now. I'm still waiting for there to somehow be some sort of home software where we can take digital renderings of our favorite characters and create our own movies with them. Sort of like movie fan fiction. I can only imagine the possibilities.

  9. On a totally unrelated note, here is the first announcement I've seen basically since Disney bought Lucasfilm that I am not in the slightest bit worried about, and think it adorable and can't believe it was never done before. http://www.ew.com/article/2015/07/09/star-wars-little-golden-books?hootPostID=fd7fb07f8800f6a4041471dde0ef0f3c Star Wars Little Golden Books. 10. After a very long time, this has effectively made me go from lurker mode to sort of angry ranting mode.
Oh my God, is it just me or is anyone else getting sick of this Star Wars invasion of merchandising and movies that Disney has prepared for us... But again, they have to take their money from the fans, they paid a few dollars for this franchise (sigh). I'm happy Star Wars doesn't die away, but... is this going to be the price???
I agree with most of you about bringing back Harrison Ford from American Graffiti and change that cowboy hat with some hot appropriate clothes :P.
Here’s another list of actors: http://www.antena3.com/se-estrena/noticias/actualidad/actores-que-querriamos-ver-como-han-solo_2015070800172.html
It is in Spanish, but the pictures are universal ;)
About the character, the Han Solo we know is a 29 year old version (correct me if I’m wrong about the age, I’m in rating mode and not gonna check it). We can assume that he has gone through pretty hard things in his life that has made him who he is later in life. So I’m wouldn’t mind to see a more naïve version of Han Solo, only if they go back in time far enough.
For adventures of his recent past I only would buy the ticket if they do it with anti-age technology, as some of you say. They did an amazing job with Snape in Harry Potter, and Arnold in Terminator Genesis. They could be the first guys to make a whole movie with this technology… But I don’t see Harrison doing this. They are going to take a pretty young boy from Disney’s Boy actors Database and make us be happy with that. D: Just because they can.
I think is past time we accept the horrible truth. That more Star Wars movies are going to be created and to hell with the original fans who kept Star Wars alive for since it came out.
Anyway, thank you all for the time and effort to read this long ranting of mine... Have a nice weekend!

    1. Well, welcome out of lurkdom. I'm just sorry that it is anger and irritation that has brought you out as opposed to happy excitement, but I do understand how you feel.

It does sort of seem like Star Wars is going to become like the super hero movies. New ones every year, and while it was cool back when they were sporadic and each one clearly had a lot of effort and thought put into it, after the 12th or 13th one in a row you're kind of like, wow, another one of these already? They're spinning these out pretty fast and you can tell the quality isn't great. It just seems like it's really going to cheapen it, and then where does it end? Are we later going to get a Disney comedy or maybe an angsty dramedy that focuses on "tween Leia? Honestly, even after what he did with the prequels it kind of makes me want George back.

Interesting on naive Han Solo, but at the same time then we'd have to probably go way back, and find a VERY young man to play him. Would a kid like that be able to carry a movie like that? I really don't think so. Yes, I do believe Han was supposed to be 29 in ANH though of course Harrison was 33-34 when shooting it. (as a side note, it made me sad when I was finally caught up and now older than he was when he made that movie) That is another reason why some of the actors being pitched are annoying to me, because a lot of them are too old. But then the ones who are young enough look like children. So really, it is becoming clear that I'm going to be impossible to please!

I just don't want to have the horrible realization once one or two of these movies come out that I really wish that none of this ever happened and they just left it all alone.

  11. ok, I wasn't exactly in Lurkedom, I was simply gone from the forums, the youtube channels, the fanfic pages and the overall Star Wars Internet community because I want to know nothing about Star Wara VII until it comes out, so I can judge the movie without expectations. I haven't even seen the trailer (you should've seen me in Avengers 2, with my eyes shut tight and rubbing my ears with my hands to block the noise from the trailer, curled up like a ball yelling "NONONONONOOO YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO MEEEE" and all my friends laughing at me and throwing me popcorn LOL)

So this Han Solo spin off movie comes as a real shock to me! I didn't heard anything.

Ok, I have calmed down during the day and I am starting to feel excited about it. But I want to see what they do with episode VII first. Because let's face it

About having a very VERY young actor I only see it as a flashback, because I don't think he would be able to handle this.

After a little research, I put this name on the table: Ansel Elgort as a teen Han Solo?? But I want to see how good as an actor he is before taking him seriously as a candidate.

For an older version, I think the only option would be Anthony Ingruber. He has already played a young Harrison Ford on another movie. But he makes an impersonation, I don't know if he is a good actor or not...

    What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Wow, I do have to commend you on your restraint. Not even watching the trailers? That takes some serious will power. Although I admit that I actually took that exact approach for.... Episode I. I used to do that sort of half looking at the TV but mostly not, thing. But, well, look how that turned out. I am avoiding major spoilers, I don't really want to know what the movie is ABOUT, and only really want to know Han and Leia's relationship status, mostly because IF something bad is going on there, I fear my reaction when we find this out during the movie would be to yell obscenities loudly, or something like that, and I need to be mentally prepared for that before hand if that is going to be the case.

No idea about Ansel Elgort, never heard of him. I've never liked the idea of Anthony Ingruber. Didn't I mention that somewhere here already? The guy does a decent impersonation of Harrison/Han Solo. Impersonator does not equal actor/movie star. I saw him in Age of Adeline and it worked fine for that role, he didn't have a lot of screen time. But you can see him impersonating rather than acting. I don't think that is the right way to go about casting for this movie. I think the only way for it to work is for someone to try and make the character their own in some way. Or, as we've mentioned previously, to just find a way to use young Harrison Ford. The funny thing is, most of the articles I've seen that suggest actors for the role include de-aged Harrison.

      Delete
    2. Obviously de-aged Harrisom woulf be the best but.... Not very likely. I haven't seen The Age of Adeline, I want to watch it before deciding on Anthony Ingruber.

The other best option is to take an unknown actor.

YES, is taking me a lot of will power, and my friends are helping because non of them post anything about TFA on our whatsapp group, nor they talk about the movie when I'm around. In fact I wrote them saying "WHAT ARE THEY DOING!!!???Han Solo movie???" and they were like... "Calm down... That's not news, it's been around for a while now..." LOL

About Han and Leia being together,I supose someone have already said this somewhere but... I wasn't here to read it ;) Have you thought about they not being together and then reuniting for a whatever mission? And then falling in love again after some charming and familiar bickering? And going back together after so many years of bad relationships because they are made for each other?? Hhahahahaahah

I personally wouldn't do that because if they have kids you have some characters to hold on to when the Big Three are no longer in the movies... But again, maybe you have already talk long about this before. Please, before anybody answers remember I want to know nothing (Jon Snow) about the movie. ^3^

      Delete
    3. I'm definitely not holding my breath on de-aged Harrison. So funny how this wasn't news to anyone but you because you have been so good about holding back on spoilers :)

I've certainly thought about that particular scenario. In fact, didn't I actually already see that scenario when Indy and Marion reunited and fell in love and got married in Indy 4? ;) Truthfully that is my biggest issue with that, it's a story we JUST saw with Indiana Jones. Except in that case it was necessary in order to bring back Marion, because we already saw in Last Crusade that he wasn't with her anymore. And I've mentioned this when we've talked about it before (I have no problem stating it again though) that it just seems like unnecessary complication. We already saw their love story. This is a new movie with new people and presumably a whole heck of a lot else going on, do we really need to spend screen time on finding out Han and Leia weren't together anymore, finding out WHY (it seems this fact can't be just glanced over if probably at least 90% of your viewing audience is simply going to assume that they wound up together, and whatever reason they didn't would probably have to be something a little more complicated than just, "it didn't work out") then spending enough time to watch them fall in love again, after we already watched them fall in love in another movie, and wind up together? I get what you're saying, that it could be cute to get to watch them fall in love again, but I don't think there would be enough time to devote to such a story, I'm not sure that the general audience even wants to watch that story, which is kind of a re-hash of them in ESB and/or just a do-over of Indy and Marion, and personally I feel that watching a few cute moments like that would not make up for my huge disappointment at learning that they hadn't spent the last 30 years, or at least the vast majority, together.

None of that is spoilers, by the way. I've heard rumors that say certain things but I'm not totally buying them because I know the source of said rumors (not like, the person, but where they are getting the material that they are interpreting the information from) and I'm not ready to believe anything either way just yet. At this point I'm preparing myself for the possibility that they MIGHT not be together, just because we don't know either way yet.

    4. Zyra, thank you very much for answering my comment.

At this point, I've read here something about a picture with a kiss and I don't want to read anything else hahahaha. So after this comment I quit again the Star Wars Internet Community and back to my isolation. :( I'm missing you so much, girls....

I've just finished watching the Age of Adaline, Ok,you're totally right. He does a very good imitation, but I don't think he would be able to handle a whole movie/trilogy (OMG, I hope they keep it at one movie).

About the Marion/Indy Move, I forgot they did that already! I simply erased that movie from my brain. You're right it would be stupid to do that. It would be a waste of time making them fall for each other again, and the audience wouldn't want that. We had long neverending loves story with Padme and Anakin and don't want that again with this two. I hope they put a lot of bickering when they are under pressure (again, I have no information whatsoever, so just wishfull thinking).

As soon as the movie comes out, I'll be back here commenting your posts. Thank you and all the best for everybody! Have a great time!

    5. Wait! Don't go yet! You probably already have, and I don't blame you, but on the off chance you are still paying attention, the kiss comment is not at all a spoiler, this was simply Harrison and Carrie kissing hello when he came out to join the Comic Con panel. He even kissed Mark on the cheek, I don't think (or at least I hope) that is foreshadowing anything in the movie.

Glad you agree on Anthony Ingruber. Not knocking him at all really, I just don't think he would be the right choice. I did enjoy that movie, though.

We look forward to your return in December!

The reason that I say this is because now that something has been revealed at SDCC about whose kid is probably NOT someone's, my theories about this movie and Han/Leia have been completely "thrown out the window." There was another quote relating to the Big 3, and there were rumors going around on that website about their involvement in the move together. That quote throws that theory "out the window," too. Plus, J.J. Abrams revealed that they're still editing the movie.

    1. You're welcome. And this is one of the reasons why I have avoided rumor stuff. First, because I do want the movie to be mostly "fresh" to me. I don't want to see a movie that I already read every scene on the internet months before it came out and spend the whole time going, "Yep, I remember reading that, and here's what's going to happen next..." where is the fun in that? You only get ONE shot at seeing a movie for the first time. Subsequent views are fun and all, but there is nothing like it all being revealed to you the first time. I was a pre-schooler when ROTJ came out and I still remember thinking it was really cool finding out Leia was behind that bounty hunter mask. And the second reason I have stayed away from the rumor sites, is that you really have no way of knowing for sure where the information is coming from and who is correct and who is interpreting it all wrong. People on those sites have a habit of making MAJOR leaps from minor pieces of information. I mean, remember a month ago the Han's wife thing? "OMG, this black lady in this obscure comic only like 10% of the movie viewers will know about said one line that said she was Han's wife, so Han was cheating on this woman with Leia (how did we get there since even if she was his wife then, the comic takes place like 2 years before ESB?) and obviously they had a kid together and that son is Finn, the black guy from the new movies! It all makes sense!" I've seen other leaps, but this was the most obvious one and I think you get the idea.

We don't know how accurate their information is, and we also don't know if whatever they are using maybe even purposely had "code words" or something on there to throw people off. I still just don't buy that there is something with huge, major plot information just floating around. Remember how in the OT we always heard how nobody even had a script that said that Darth Vader was Luke's father? Why are random people being given access to this stuff? I still feel as though anyone important enough to truly know some of these details is not spending their time sharing it all on the internet. And that is why I don't want to spend months before the movie comes out getting worked up over potential rumors that I really can't know are true. Before the movie comes out, we will know certain things because I think the novelization actually comes out before the movie, believe it or not. I'll wait until then to find out for sure a couple of things I'll want to know going in. Or maybe at one of these conventions they will show us some shots of Han and Leia kissing again and then I can relax ;)

  24. Also, I'm going to write a post on Comic-Con so let's leave this thread now to new Han movie discussion and shortly we will have a place to discuss this other stuff.

  25. Girls, I'm missing you so much, I'm staying only to see the comments on this post.

Now the first shock is gone, I'm starting to get a little excited about it. He is my favourite character in the whole saga, and I'm ready to bet yours too?

About the mistery thing of keeping his story unknown... We've already read the Han Solo Trilogy, where they tell you about his past. So what is the difference? That this will be canon? Or that we haven't seen SW7 and we are already sick of it already?

After all they have to respect the major plot lines, like daving Chewie, and we can get to see young Lando too! (Ole Lando in his mid 20, Lol). And how he got the Millenium Falcon...

Also Han was part of the Imperial Army? So maybe you're right and they will put Vader in somehow....(sigh)

Actually my greatest gear is that they don't keep at one movie and make a trilogy. But you have to admit we will see some cool stuff. If, AND ONLY IF, they doa magnificent job with the casting. What do you girls think?

    1. Cool, glad you are sticking around. I replied to your post up there that announced you were leaving, clarifying the kiss picture we referenced, and how it is not in any way a spoiler and has nothing to do with the actual movie. Anyway...

I'm glad you're able to be excited about it. I am currently not super worried about it, only because to start with I really have to just see Episode VII first and decide how that goes, whether or not I should be excited or worried for future movies. They keep talking about this Rogue One movie too and I barely give it a second thought, I don't even care right now until I know what happens in Episode 7.

That said, can I get excited for this? I don't know. I think it's going to be really tough to do well, and I also sort of wonder about the tone and the settings. Is it going to feel like a Star Wars movie? Is it going to be more child friendly with a younger main character? Though to be fair, ANH had fairly young main characters (Luke and Leia were technically teenagers, even though I've never looked at them that way, if perhaps only because I was so young when I saw those movies that they were simply "grown-ups" to me, who all may as well be the same age and I've never viewed them differently) and that certainly didn't feel like a "kiddie" movie.

I don't actually mind the idea of seeing young Lando. I guess because his character is less sacred to me. Having Han meet Chewie could be kind of awesome, and seeing Han be a little more vulnerable maybe in his younger years.

When you mention the mystery and the difference between the HST books, they are tossing out everything from those books. Potentially they might use some of it, and they probably at have to use at least a little bit though changing specifics, but they can toss out whatever and create something totally new. It is sort of annoying how they were not allowed to tell those stories about Han in those books, presumably because sometime later they'd go back to them and didn't want something else in the canon already, and now it's just going to get tossed out anyway. So we could've already read about Han meeting Chewie, and that would've been pretty cool even if later we were going to be told that it didn't count and the story would be told differently.

I'm also interested to see how far back they'll go. Are they going to talk about how he grew up? Whether or not he had family and what happened to them? I guess I also worry they will do something annoying there. I was fine mostly with what the HST did for him there, and I was actually glad that his actual family and what happened to them was left as a mystery. Character background is interesting to know, but in a lot of ways I don't want to know absolutely every detail of everything, because I think it wrecks the mystery.

I really doubt they would make more than one movie out of this. How much back story can one character have? I don't know, I'm still skeptical about this and it will remain to be seen just how excited I'll be for this when it comes out. In fact, I think it will be very interesting to see how excited everyone will be for this to come out. Is every Star Wars movie going to carry so much weight and excitement and break box office records? That'll certainly be interesting to watch happen.

  26. When I saw this this morning, I remembered that post about who could play a young Han Solo… If Harrison thinks Anthony Ingruber is a good actor plus the fact that he does look very much like a young Ford, he became my first choice for that part...

    1. I think I already said this a few times above, I still don't think he'd be a good choice. I think for that particular role, he was great, good choice. No problem. I just don't think that a guy who does a nice impersonation of Harrison Ford/Han Solo can really carry a movie and BE Han Solo. I actually think it would be better, if they MUST cast someone new in the role, for an actor to make it more his own rather than trying to be Harrison Ford being Han Solo, you know?

I forgot how I'm not looking forward to that movie!

  27. Hellooooou!!! I'm coming back from my Star Wars Quarantine for a few moments, navigating through the page with a tablecloth covering most of the screen until I found this post, the only "recent" one I know has no photospoiler of the episode VII.

Just wanted to tell you girls that I am going to London on December to visit my bes friend ever. And yes, we are going to watch the movie on the 17th of December, at 00:01. First ever session, (only 3 theaters in London have that session).

AND of course, we will camp on the cinema door to see the red carpet.

If the movie ends up being a disappointment, we will have fun comentating everything. If not, we will buy 3D tickets for Friday.

OH MY GOD I'M SO EXCITEEED!!! Bye!!!!
