Join Us...and Together We Can Read the Entire EU!

So, Zyra and I have been knocking around this idea to read all of the EU books together.  Sort of like a book club.  We haven't worked out many rules, other than that.  We thought it might be interesting to compare our thoughts on the books as we read them.  We also thought it might be a good opportunity to do some writing challenges along the way.  Maybe filling in those missing moments that the EU is so famous for.

We haven't decided on a start date, but Zyra needs to finish reading 'Choices of One' before we begin so it probably won't start up for a few weeks or so.  We will be starting with the Han Solo Trilogy which chronicles Han's life and is set before ANH.

We don't intend to read every single book out there, like the X-Wing series and some others that don't feature or pertain to Han and Leia.  This was just an idea and as I said, we haven't worked out many details but we thought you guys might be interested.  We thought we might do one post per book giving a review and synopsis.  Maybe even work on a 'Han and Leia' rating for each book.  Who knows?

You guys might not want to read every book and you may just want to pop in and out on the ones that interest you.  Or maybe you might just want to chime in on the books you remember that we end up talking about.  Whatever works for you.

I guess what we're wondering is...does this sound interesting to anyone?  Admittedly it sounded a little a insane to us at first (it was my idea), but it has sort of grown on us and I'm getting pretty excited.  I'm a fast reader and don't always absorb everything on the first pass.  I have reread all of my favorite books (sometimes more than just twice) so this isn't that crazy to me.  But sometimes I'm a bad judge of crazy. :-)

So....thoughts???

  1. Sounds pretty cool, but like a really daunting task! I've read COPL (mostly because I felt out of the loop and needed to know what everyone was complaining about), Tatooine Ghost, and the Han Solo Trilogy.

  2. I think an e-book club (if that's what you would call it) sounds like a very interesting, yet good idea! The only EU books I've read so far are, "Tatooine Ghost" (of course!) and "Recovery," which I just finished last night. Both written by Troy Denning...huh.

  3. I think it's a awesome idea but I'm maybe not the best one to ask, seeing as how the only thing I might love more than reading books is talking about books.

I also think there should be a requirement that each and every review include the word "oinker".

  4. Ha! Zyra thought you guys would never go for this, said it would be too overwhelming!

    Emma: How'd you like Recovery?

Julz: We'll have to vote on the oinkier requirement...

  5. I'd be down for that, I think it's a good idea. I could use an outlet to blab to someone about the books. I also think writing challenges would be a good idea as well, in fact I thought about bringing that up the other day.

Haha by the way, that reminds me. Right before I was starting up school this semester, I had a dream that I signed up for a class that discussed and analyzed the SW books. I was pretty disappointed when I woke up.

  6. PS sticking my nose into the conversation with my two cents on Recovery; I liked it a lot but with all due respect to Troy Denning, I could have done without the part where the Barabels left dead animals outside the door to Han and Leia's "honeymoon suite". it sort of ruined the mood.

  8. I'd go for that. I haven't kept up with the EU in ages, and it would be nice to know which of the ones I haven't read are worth a shot. :)

The oinkier requirement sounds good too. ;)

    (Oh, and my word's "snilter")

  9. Did I ever say that people would NEVER go for this? I was just personally a bit overwhelmed at the prospect. Plus, I know how fast Push reads! I do love the challenge idea, though. So anytime I anyone thinks something should be added, feel free to mention it and maybe we'll make up for that lack of sex for them throughout 99.9% of the books ;)

  10. You were definitely...skeptical...

Oh, I forgot about the dead animal thing! Yeah, could've lived without that.

  11. Oh, this is a great idea. I've read almost all the books with Han and Leia both in and feel it's about time I revisited them. It might even be the push that I need to actually read the Han Solo Trilogy (Bria puts me off!).

  12. Oh, is THAT where Bria comes from? I have to admit that I have never read anything about Bria aside from casual mentions in fanfic. Ew, well, that's kindof a turnoff for me for the Han Solo trilogy. But, since I already bought them I guess I'll have to see it through.

  13. I thought, Push, that I explained Bria to you a long time ago? You asked me if I knew then what I know now, would I still read them? And yes, I would. I feel the good stuff outweighs the bad. Of course, I read those books 12 years ago and now I'm worried maybe it was worse than I remember. She wouldn't necessarily have bothered me except for the fact that the author stole certain lines or things from Han and Leia in the movies, making it seem like what happened with Han and Leia was only merely partially a repeat with what happened to him with Bria. But again, I can just go with my standard saying that it really doesn't matter because anything that happens in the books that I don't like I can just pretend never happened.

  14. Yeah, I know you and I have talked about Bria, but I didn't know which books she was featured in prominently. For me, she is still just a rumor, this will make it real. But, I'm with you. I can just add her to the many, many other things that I pretend never happened that I've read in the EU.

  15. Didn't know which books? It's those 3 and that's it. And I think other than that she only gets mentioned once in a NJO book. So yes, easy to pretend she doesn't exist.
