Three Weeks to Go, Some Funny Stuff with Harrison, and Happy Thanksgiving!

I believe I promised you a new post because the last one was getting out of hand with so many comments, and we are due anyway. Also I thought the Jimmy Kimmel show was going to be totally worthy of its own post because it was going to be so great, but I wound up being kind of disappointed there. Mostly because Harrison wasn't there but also because they didn't really talk that much to the cast, or at least not for very long. I really hope that there isn't a lot more disappointment to come in the next few weeks.

By far the bright spot was this fun clip of Harrison and Chewbacca. I don't know how many of you saw a few years ago when they did a little thing where Harrison had a "feud" with Chewie because he had apparently cheated with his wife or something. That was funny even then. But then now there is this:

I had seen some pictures of them shooting this weeks ago when Harrison was on the show then and couldn't figure out why there were all of these pictures when it clearly wasn't on the show, but now we know it was a way for him to be "on" the show without actually being there for this episode. That said, it is definitely pretty funny. And it has been strange and surreal to see Harrison be so enthusiastic in his participation in all things Star Wars suddenly. He definitely didn't look like he was being reluctant in his participation in this thing here. Maybe his plane crash also softened him a little? I don't really know, I just know that I am almost skeptical and waiting to see what his real reasons are. I don't know what I would think those reasons would be, but I just would never have expected this from him after so many years of not being particularly interested in Star Wars.

We also just got this new image:

I mean, if these are just the images we're allowed to see before we all see the movie, imagine all the cool stuff waiting for us once nothing is a secret anymore.

I don't know if I can handle any more speculation. I don't want to think about it anymore, I just want to see it. I also think that at some point in the very near future I'll be abstaining from any internet things that are Star Wars related, just in case. I'll warn you all when that happens. And then once I see the movie, you can expect a post probably just about immediately, so for anyone not seeing it the first night it is out, stay away until you see it! To my foreign friends who get the movie before we do, please wait until those of us in the US have seen it. But anyway, still not there yet, so continue to comment away at least for now.

And finally, again to the US readers, happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the turkey and other delicious things. And be thankful that we only have to wait THREE MORE WEEKS!!!

  1. I was really disappointed by the Harrison/Chewie skit. Really disappointed. Some of the things Harrison was shouting at Chewie? ("Do us a favor and go for it" etc) Daaaaang. I know the Kimmel audience is a late-night, mature audience, where darker humor is fine, and I understand this skit was in line with that mature/dark humor. But I just felt really uncomfortable watching it. Perhaps I just don't find threatening to jump very humorous in general. Plus, to see the Han/Chewie friendship turn so sour -- even in jest -- was just hard to watch. Maybe if the skit had been "Harrison Ford/Peter Mayhew" mock-feuding, or even "Han/Chewie," I could have gotten on board with the humor. Or if Harrison's acting had been a bit more camp. But with it being "Harrison/Chewie," and with Harrison's fairly believable acting, the reality/fiction/parody lines got all awkward, and it just left me uncomfortable.

    2. Well the whole setup was so absurd (fictional Wookiee along with the idea that he had had an affair with Harrison's wife - honestly the more uncomfortable thing for me there was thinking, which ex wife?) that I can let that slide, but I can understand why that type of subject matter might be uncomfortable for some. I didn't personally find it dark at all because it was basically slapstick.

    3. Right! Exact same thought: which ex wife? More blurred lines between reality and fiction. Too absurd for me. (I'll just take grumpy Harrison in a hot dog suit.) That said -- glad you and others enjoyed it!

    4. Maybe this is dumb, because I know it was Harrison and not "Han" in the skits, but I always assumed the wife they were talking about was supposed to be Leia. Am I the only one?

  2. I just wish that Harrison had been in the interview segment, although I know that he was just on Kimmel. I wanted to see him interact intimately with the cast. I was looking forward to him interacting with Carrie Fisher especially, and I think that advertising that he was on the show was sort of false.

On a better note, there will be a People special Star Wars issue coming out soon, and it has Han and Leia front and center on the cover (just like the official poster). Her hair is much more visible on the cover, and she looks so beautiful with her earrings and everything.

  3. And Chewbacca is at the bottom, not next to them (Yeah-As it should be). I can e-mail you the picture if you like or paste the link here.

  4. I'd love to see the picture, iluvkoalas. Do you have a link?

I wish he had talked to the cast more, but I kinda understood why he didn't. It must be hard to talk about a movie nobody is supposed to talk about. And Carrie has a big mouth, LOL. It was probably best to keep it to a minimum. I was mainly disappointed that Harrison wasn't with the rest of them, but I enjoyed the trivia part. And every time I see Carrie with a bunch of people it's soooo obvious how tiny she is. Bless her, her feet didn't even touch the ground when she was sitting on the couch.

    1. Oh I totally agree, I forget how tiny Carrie is. She is sooooo short. Carrie definitely has a big mouth, but I just find it funny. I think mostly she just doesn't get what the big deal is about certain things, like she wouldn't give away the whole movie or anything but she might say some small thing, like the name of some character, and Disney would flip out. It's just funny.

I'm sure it is nice to be as short as Carrie on airplanes. I have the opposite problem.

    2. I think her big mouth is funny, too. I remember when all this first started coming out it was speculated they had to issue a gag order on her. People were freaking out that she'd revealed a spoiler when she kept signing autographs as Mrs. H Solo, but then she made a statement she'd been doing that for years. I agree with you - I think she just doesn't see what the big deal is, lol. Obviously I don't think she would make some statement as to someone's identity or spoil a really big plot point, but Disney does tend to get up in arms about the littlest thing. As if this movie isn't going to break the bank all by its little self....

I love how short she is because I'm only an inch taller and I think the height difference between her and HF is just adorable.

    1. 'Preciate it! I find it interesting how they have Carrie's hair color - when it's obviously more gray in the trailer.

    2. Cool. And now I'm annoyed because I visited two separate supermarkets today and didn't look at the magazines. One of them though had a whole Star Wars display with big balloons and tshirts and beanie hats. Also R2-D2 sugar cookies. Really the merchandising is kind of out of hand.

    3. Don't forget you can also get your very own Star Wars charm bracelet from Kay Jewelers. Disney even has retail jewelers trying to make them money.....Sigh.

    4. That poster looks like the covers of the EU novels where they aged up the likenesses of Han and Leia. I always thought they were so cheesy. And now it's real. LOL!

  6. Yeah, Carrie has a big mouth, but that's probably because of her illness. I don't like the cursing or anything, but I think that she's otherwise a good person.

    1. Buy them yourself and then have her reimburse you. Just tell her that you were afraid that you might not be able to get tickets right away in December.

      Delete
    2. Uh oh. I would agree with your friend for literally any other movie in the history of the world that was coming out, that three weeks before is way earlier than you need to worry about tickets. But yeah, this is totally different. I bet in my neck of the woods for any other movie release ever I could find tickets to a first show on the day of. For Star Wars? No tickets left anywhere. First night, yes, you can still have that but not THE first show.

This is why I wasn't going to trust anyone else with that responsibility, I wanted to make sure I got those tickets!

  8. I'm surprised I didn't see the Harrison interview here. It's in a Q&A in a mag and I saw it on the Jedi Council forums. There's also a quote from Mark about reuniting with the other two and some are speculating that Han survives based on the wording by Mark. For those interested, check out the other board for direct quotes.

    1. What magazine? Poor Mark, they barely talk to him at this point!

Basically I'd like to walk into that movie theater prepared to watch Han die, and be pleasantly surprised/unbelievably happy when I find out he doesn't. That would be nice. Especially if at some point during the movie they make us THINK he's dead, but then we find out he isn't.

      Delete
    2. I've said before that it will be much easier for me to swallow Han dying than Han/Leia separated, or never married, or divorced. At least then we'd know they had 30 years together. But let them be apart AND he dies? I will boycott anything to do with any future SW stuff and just pretend like TFA, along with the prequels and some of this other "canon" stuff never existed.

Honestly, the closer it gets to 12/18 the more nauseated I get. Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited, but I'm fully prepared to be sick to my stomach from sheer disappointment.

    3. That Mark Hamill quote did it for me. I think that Han will survive based on that and lots of other stuff.

  9. Guys, possible good news here...

I bought the People special edition Star Wars magazine at my local Walgreens today. Leia and Han front and center...

In it they have a big picture of Han and Leia embracing like in the trailer.

Here is the quote about Han and Leia surrounding the picture:

    "Lasting Love?

The fate of Princess Leia and Han Solo's relationship is a secret, but Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill had input into the script. 'J.J. and I were very cognizant of wanting them to be happy," says co-screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. "Wanting them to be happy" probably means wanting the actors to be happy. That might not mean that their characters would be happy. I feel like maybe Harrison would be like, "Oh Han would never change" even though Carrie would be like, "Clearly they totally got married and had babies."

      Delete
    2. I just think that he wouldn't have worded it that way if they didn't have a happy ending in this film.

  10. In other news, it looks like Harrison is going to be on a few talk shows this week. Good Morning America on Tuesday. Also Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday. My guess is that won't be the end of that list but a lot of shows haven't released schedules yet for next week.

Han and Leia for the win!

    5. Where did y'all find the magazine? My local B&N still has People with Sexiest Men and then one with The Hunger Games.

      Delete
    6. Same here, when I looked I only saw those two issues. Hunger Games, Shmunger Games. That last movie I thought was very disappointing and actually pretty boring. The last 2 movies should've only been 1 movie, no reason for that!

      Delete
    7. I haven't seen any of THG movies. I loved the books (except for Mockinjay which really just made me angry), so I'll probably just avoid them altogether.

    8. FYI, the People magazine won't hit shelves until Dec 9th.

  11. In People magazine, Carrie said, "Han and Leia have conflict, but they stick with it. They take the trouble," Fisher explains, "The key with Harrison is taking the trouble to get past any trouble."

Is Princess Leia still the same galactic badass that she was when she and Han Solo first met? "Yes, with a caveat," says Fisher coyly, "Yes and no...and yes."

Regarding Billie Lourd, the magazine has a big picture of her next to Leia's droid while she's operating a machine. The magazine states that she is playing a "top-secret" role.

Billie Lourd's role must be important. Still wondering if she's related to Han and Leia with that identical hairdo of hers in the film. Just speculation...

    1. I don't see how Carrie's quote about sticking with it and taking the trouble can be taking in any wa OTHER than positive. I'm trying not to see it through my Han/Leia colored glasses, but it still sounds good to me.

      Delete
    2. My last remaining hope is this ambiguity about their relationship is purely a smokescreen so that there is payoff for when we first see them on screen, and their initial interaction maybe isn't quite so happy but then they come together and hug or something and we see they were just playing around but really everything has been fine for them, they've just been busy because of this whole war thing that has been going on.

Also, there is a track on the soundtrack titled "Han and Leia" so really, that has to be a good thing, right? I mean unless it accompanies a moment where they talk about how things used to be 30 years ago, but please, please, let's hope not.

      Delete
    3. I don't see how you cast Billie and not have her be related to Leia in some way- the resemblance is too strong to not go there. And with it being "top secret" it seems to lend more weight to the fact that she's one of their kids.I don't know though - people online have speculated every single cast member as being a Han/Leia kid. Some argue the ages of characters like Rey and even Billie's are too young, but there's nothing to say they didn't have kids a decade or so after they got married (if they got married....). Aside from the age, the thing what throws me off about Daisy is her accent. How did H/L have a kid with a British accent? It seems more likely Adam is their kid, but this is strictly speculation, which I hope is okay for me to do here. He's the right age for one thing, if people want to argue the age thing....

Aside from this, I think Carrie's comments are very positive.

      Delete
    4. Speculating is totally fine. I've speculated plenty myself! I just don't want outright spoilers. Like, "I saw a leaked photo online that shows Han and Luke brutally murdered from the movie!" would be a spoiler. "Kylo Ren could be their kid" is not a spoiler, it's just wondering about stuff.

Whether Rey is their kid or not, it seems apparent she was not wih them for a long time, and if she grew up a lot somewhere else, she'd have a different accent. Or maybe they'll just be weird in Star Wars and try and tell us accents don't really mean anything. I mean, nobody ever wondered where Obi Wan's accent came from. And come to think of it, I know nothing about Obi Wan's history. Where did he grow up? Did he have parents? Now I'm curious and I've never wondered about that before.

"Leia my be older, but she is no less the tough, capable galactic princess/Skywalker twin/civil partner to a certain Han Solo."

      Great news.

    4. based on what Carrie has stated in the People magazine (I haven't read it myself yet), and Zyra, how you mentioned there is a song on the soundtrack called Han and Leia(? -cool - I didn't realize that either), it seems like we have our answer. I think it would be incredibly cynical to have the love theme playing in a trailer, a song on the soundtrack with their names together, and say "well, that was from decades ago, though..."

      Delete
  14. And now since someone put that online quote on one of the forums I visit, two people are already arguing with me about the validity of the quote. I don't think that Empire Magazine would be allowed to post false information. But of course, the fans who don't want to see them together have to debate me. Whatever...

    2. I know. I try to keep telling myself that.

They have the information right in front of their eyes from reputable magazines, yet they sit there and say, "No, no it's not true," yet they'll believe a website that posts the entire supposedly plot of the film without even questioning that some or all plot points are wrong. The reason they doubt this Han and Leia news is because it conflicts with the rumors about them.

  16. The funny thing about that Greedo shot first quote is I never understood why that was such a big deal. Han shot him because he knew that Greedo was just about to shoot him. So George made a big deal about that??

    1. I know, it never felt like cold murder to me, I never gave it any thought. Seemed more like kill or be killed. Is it murdering to shoot someone who was just about to shoot you? Although it didn't make sense to me either that Greedo was going to shoot him rather than just bring him in to Jabba. Especially when Han sees Jabba a few minutes later and he doesn't kill him, either. Really he should've changed it to Han "stunning" him instead. Nobody would miss shooting someone from that close!

  17. Harrison was on a couple of talk shows already this morning, will be on Tonight Show tonight. No news to report. He was asked outright about Han Solo's relationship status and he had to not answer the question. I'm still going to hold out my miniscule ray of hope that the only reason for that ambiguity is some sort of payoff moment during the actual movie they don't want to ruin. Then he mostly talked about the plane crash and the door breaking his leg. He seemed to be in very good spirits, lots of smiles, looking good as usual. It was basically what I had expected.

    ReplyDelete
  18. And heads up to those of you who are interested, Harrison is on the Tonight Show tonight (Tuesday) and I read on Twitter that it was a very good interview so we have that to look forward to. Carrie is making the rounds on Thursday. We're getting so close!

  19. 17 days to go before Star Wars!!!! So excited. I was browsing through the Star Wars comics produced by Marvel, and it seems as though one of the series that they have published recently is directly linked to the movie. Of course, I chose not to read it nor even skim at it yet because I don't want to be spoiled but I got the gist that the main trio of TFA will be somehow related to the big 3. Whether by blood or affinity, zero clue. I don't want spoilers, seriously. I don't want to be that annoying know-it-all nerd at the moviehouse who whispers to her seatmate the scenes that's gonna happen next. Instant gratification really takes too long for some of us, honestly.

    1. Seriously. It is December of 2015. It was over 2 years they told us when we'd finally get to see it. It has been a long wait. I don't want to be that person either, and even in my own head I don't want to spend the whole movie thinking, "Oh yeah, next is going to be that part I read about online when...." just, no. Depending on what happens I may remove myself from any Star Wars related sites soon although I don't really go anywhere else, my own blog seems safe :) At this point it's been so long, and I've been so patient, I'm not even anxious anymore. I'm kind of just like, oh, 2 and a half more weeks? No big deal, I can handle that.

Nice quote from Carrie there :)
