Just Over ONE WEEK to Go!

For any of you who missed it, here is the still we were talking about in the comments on the last post. I don't read anything in it, I'm just going to enjoy it for what it is and be happy that after the movie comes out there is a good chance we'll get even more good Han and Leia pictures they couldn't show us before we knew what was going to happen.

So, for a lot of us including myself, one week from tomorrow we will finally get to see this movie. Star Wars has taken over everything, everywhere. Commercials that aren't even for Star Wars will have like, kids wearing Star Wars pajamas for no reason, or I even saw a car commercial yesterday that had nothing to do with Star Wars, the whole commercial was normal except it had Star Wars music in the background. It's almost too much even for me.

There are dozens of cast interviews on the internet. My favorite recent one was when Harrison commented that his favorite part of the first movies was when Leia was wearing the bikini with Jabba. I really can't even keep up at this point with what is out there. Harrison is in Australia at the moment for you lucky Australians, doing a fan event I think tomorrow. I think I saw somewhere Daisy is in South Korea. These poor people must be exhausted.

Some of you had also been asking about that People magazine with all of the Star Wars stuff in it, I do believe it was to hit news stands today so you can probably go check that out.

Really, after over three years of waiting since this was announced, it is finally time. FINALLY. It is both exciting and terrifying. What are they going to do to everyone? Is this the last time we get to see Han Solo alive? Or anyone else? Where the heck has Luke been all this time? What has happened in the last 30 years? Our questions will be answered soon.

Monday is the big premiere in Los Angeles. It will be live streamed online. For myself, I do believe that after I watch that live stream that will be my moment where I have to avoid any Star Wars media online for fear of spoilers. I may or may not do another post (or more) here before the movie comes out, but I just wanted you all to be aware of that. You can continue to comment, I will just likely not be responding. If I can help myself, anyway.

Now I just have one last anxiety left, which is hoping my online ticket purchase was as legitimate as it appeared, and making sure we get there in time to get good seats and sit together. One more week, you guys!

  1. Thanks Zyra. I have to ask a favor...Is there any way you could have a post for people who want to discuss spoilers? You could just have a blank post called SPOILER POST and then leave it there open for discussion. That way, you and anyone else who doesn't want to be spoiled doesn't have to read it, and the ONLY people who click on it will be people who don't mind being spoiled. I think some people will really appreciate this for several reasons. One, there's going to be so many spoilers out once Monday hits that it's going to be hard digging through them to get the Han/Leia specifics. Two, I'd rather discuss spoilers with other Han/Leia fans instead of dealing with the insensitive theforce.net people who will say something like "Get over it, people get divorced IRL all the time" (not a spoiler that Han and Leia are divorced, but hypothetically if they are I want to be among fellow Han/Leia fans who feel the same way I do). Third, I know a lot of people don't want to be spoiled but surprised, but I would much rather go into the movie knowing their fates. If it's good, I can relax and enjoy the movie. If it's bad, I don't want to be totally shocked during the movie if it turns out that things are not good for them - I'd rather know beforehand and be mentally prepared. I know that you've been keeping clear of spoilers, but for your readers who haven't been, is it possible we could set up a spoiler zone post so that those who do want to discuss spoilers can and those who don't want to see spoilers can just got go there?

    Thanks!

    1. I will say this, though. I do still read some Force.Net forums, although I will not post there anymore due to the many immature/intolerant fans over there.

I used to be one of the lone voices against any possible Han/Leia estrangement and death of Han Solo. Well, in the last week or two, a whole bunch of posters posted in the Harrison Ford forum about how they would not like it if he died and how it would be bad for the popularity of the movie/franchise. Nice to see...

    2. Yeah, I find that most of the fans there just want what's best for a "dramatic storyline" and aren't fans of the Han/Leia relationship. I've been told over and over again that an estrangement would be better because it would make for a more dramatic storyline. I don't care if it would, you can't just break up one of the most famous cinematic couples for the sake of drama and angst. I've also had several arguments with posters who are vehemently against Finn being black and any kind of romance developing between Finn and Rey - the racism over there is really quite shocking, but that's a whole other story.

This place is so nice and pleasant in comparison. It's nice to chat with other Han/Leia fans who feel the same way I do.

  3. I agree, Zyra. I'll take this photo exactly for what it is. H/L having a sweet little moment, even if it is a publicity photo (just an assumption). I like K's idea of a spoiler thread for those of us who cannot help ourselves. I agree with the comment about sieving through information that doesn't necessarily spark our interest just to get to the H/L stuff. I would also like to be mentally prepared too. Most of us have already been so emotionally invested in this pairing for SO many year, the last thing I need is heart palpitations watching this movie in anticipation of learning the truth. I really hope JJ hasn't 'effed this up for us.

  4. Oh, and I definitely went to a few places in search of the magazine. Alas, I came to the conclusion it isn't yet available where I am in Ontario.

  5. I agree, I would really appreciate a spoiler friendly zone for those of us who are not avoiding spoilers. Personally, I don't think I could handle it if the news is bad seeing it in the theatre for the first time and not being prepared. I also wouldn't enjoy any of the Rey/Finn stuff that looks great until I knew what was happening with Han and Leia! That's me, I know everyone isn't the same, but I'd really like a safe place to discuss spoilers with Han/Leia fans than the "wretched hive of scum and villainy" that is the JC lol

  6. I'll still hoping for a kiss, even if it's just a peck on the lips. In this photo, I can't see them "just" hugging. Han has to kiss Leia at some point. Cross your fingers, folks.

    1. Haha - I totally second the idea of just a little peck on the lips.

  7. The thing that I wanted to add about the new picture was that, I agree that it definitely has a different "vibe" to it-less sadness and much more hope. Han looks hopeful, and Leia looks comforted and relieved.

  9. You know I kinda feel bad about not wanting to see the movie until I know what the spoilers are ( out of fear of something to Han or Leia for that matter). I'm relatively new to this universe ( my brother has been a lifelong friend but I never saw the original trilogy until fairly recently) but there so many of you who have been fans your entire lives. I can't imagine what you all must be feeling going into this final week before the premiere.

    1. I'm not really a diehard fan like some others, but I've always loved the movie. Like everyone here, I'm a big Han and Leia fan. When I found out that the Big 3, as many now call them, were coming back to a new film, I just "died." I never, ever expected that to happen ever...

    2. Han and Leia are really what made me want to sit down and watch the original trilogy. The movies as a whole are great but those two are my fav. I just really want to see their love story shown with some ...justice and respect in the next movies.

    3. I agree, just staying respectful of their relationship is what I need. I understand that anything from the EU is not canon as per Abrams et al. but it's the least they can offer, especially if the plot lines of ESB and Jedi surrounded their chemistry and relationship.

  10. In the picture, I see just TRUST. Leia obviously has understandable trust issues and I just two people who know each other so well and have a lifetime of trust between them.

  12. Just read that in the children's book that was released, Han tells Rey he isn't part of the Resistance and doesn't know where their base is when he meets Rey. That seems to confirm he isn't with Leia any more, since we know she's a leader of the Resistance.

    1. We don't know if he's not with Leia or not. Maybe he's a retired general, admiral, or something. He's wearing the military cylinders on his jacket. Or maybe he's just lying to keep his cover...Maybe he's smuggling for the resistance.

      Delete
    2. Hmm, but he was with Leia, wouldn't he know where the Resistance base is? In the book, he has to have BB8 find the location for him.

    3. I read what you read. But I won't write it here because it's a "spoiler-free" zone." Read further down. You'll have your answer. :)

But please read more of my comments further down as well.

    6. Considering he just met Rey, maybe he lied to her until he has more trust in her and Finn.

    7. I have the book. It says "Han was no longer a Rebel general and he wasn't part of the New Resistance."

      SPOILER SPACE

I think it is obvious they are estranged at least in the beginning of the movie from the MSW outline because Han has to ASK Maz where Leia is and where the Rebel base is. If Han was with Leia, he'd know where the Rebel base was. Leia also sends a spy to Maz's castle to find the lightsaber. If she was in contact with Han why would she send a spy to his location?

      END SPOILER SPACE

  13. They're right next to each in the new poster, which is the same pic as on the official poster. I believe that this means that they're together. Otherwise, why show them so close to each other and side by side?

In that control room shot in one of the tv spots, Han is next to Leia, and C3PO is on the other side of her. That's symbolic of him being her "right hand man." After all, 3CPO is on the other side of her, and he's been with her for years apparently, too. If he wasn't part of the resistance, why would he be right next to Leia with all of the resistance members? Why would the other resistance members let him in on the meeting if he wasn't married/with Leia or part of the resistance/aligned with it in some way?

Besides, Empire magazine said that Han was Leia's partner.

  14. Here is a brief interview from an Australian source with Harrison Ford. The interviewer asks him about his character and if there is any chemistry between him and Leia. Harrison responds, "Chemistry would be the appropriate word".

    1. Harrison was totally "ducking" questions about Han and Leia's relationship. And the answer about any Han and Leia children? His "ducking" of that question was a "yes" to me. Just how how answered it. If the answer was "no," I think he would've had a more relaxed answer.

  15. Am I the ONLY Han/Leia fan who doesn't mind that Han and Leia are divorced in the new film? JJ Abrams isn't having them broken up because he doesn't like their characters or relationship - just the opposite, he's having them be divorced so that when they meet up their scenes will be explosive and interesting. Do we really want a rehash of the EU where the only scenes they have together will just be them discussing boring war logistics? Yes, divorce sucks in real life but in a movie it will make for an emotional storyline to have Han and Leia separated and them reconciling over the course of the movie before Han goes off into the sunset one last time. Just like Indy/Marion in KOTC.

It's not like they don't care about the relationship, it's obviously a crucial point of the storyline and being handled with great care. Think of it like if a sequel came out where Rhett and Scarlet reunited with each other (Kasdan has always referred to Han and Leia as the Rhett and Scarlett in a GFFA).

  16. Leaving "spoiler space" isn't not sharing spoilers!

All right, I'll put up a spoiler post because it seems I'm going to get stuck reading things I don't want to read if I don't. PLEASE do not mention anything even sort of spoiler-ish on any other post besides that one. I get email alerts every time someone comments but I shouldn't be able to see the content of the comments.

Do NOT post spoilers to this post, or any other post except for the one that is designated for spoilers.

    2. Thank you Zyra for trying to contain the spoilers. I'll be on lockdown myself until the end of the week. It's not cool that people seem to think it's ok to post spoilers or post too much info when a lot of us have asked people not to post that stuff. Aren't there other sites where spoilers can be shared?

    3. Totally with you, Amara. Some of the comments on this page are way too close to the bone for those people who would rather not know. Even strongly hinting at stuff is still a spoiler. Thank goodness we can all actually talk about it in a few days time.

  18. I'm avoiding spoilers too. What do you guys think of Abram's comments on Han and Leia in this article? http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2015/12/13/jj-abrams-star-wars-the-force-awakens/76911016 I wish they would just come out and confirm if they're together or not.

    2. As a feminist, I don't get this idea that having a career and a relationship are mutually exclusive. Leia was such an important role model to young girls, what kind of message does it send to them that you can't do both?

      Delete
    3. I never really thought about it from that angle, because I was too busy just being upset about Han and Leia in general, but you do make a very good point. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Even in fanfic I and others have written, this was an interesting topic to explore. Leia learning to balance the two, and learning that she can't be "all in" on either side and needs to learn to make time for the important things.

That said, my bigger problem with the whole idea is that it, like the idea of Han just going back to what he was doing anyway, completely negates Leia's character arc from the first movies. She is a devoted public servant who finally learns to open her heart and let love in. It did NOT require completely giving everything else up, more just being willing to step aside and do things for herself sometimes rather than always for the sake of others. You can't just turn around and be like, just kidding, remember how she sort of changed there? She didn't really, instead she is exactly the same and here she is again having exactly the same problems all over again. Isn't that interesting?

      I'm having a bad day.
