Premiere Tonight. The Week is Finally Here

They'll still look.... sort of like that, right? For any of you who were not aware, the big premiere is tonight in LA. The event (NOT the movie part) is going to be live streamed online, and I definitely plan on watching. After that, I think I probably have to spend the next three days diligently avoiding all Star Wars media. I may or may not read comments on the non spoiler posts here at the blog, not really sure yet. I just know that with the premiere, and then other countries following I think starting tomorrow being able to see it publicly, I need to make sure I don't read anything I don't want to read.

I have appreciated you guys keeping the spoilers contained to the spoiler thread. I have a million email alerts for comments there I'll have fun reading in a few days. Please continue to keep your spoiler-related comments confined to that thread until I post my post-movie blog, at which point comment wherever, however you want. And for any of you who are seeing it later than I am and wish to remain unspoiled, I suggest you stay away from the blog until you see it. In fact I suggest you stay away from the internet entirely until you see it.

Has anyone else completely forgotten that Christmas is next week? I have been so fixated on December 17th that it has completely escaped me that I still have tons of shopping to do. Like, for pretty much everyone I have to buy presents for. Oops.

This is it, guys. We've been waiting a long, long time for this. When I saw ROTJ in the theater I couldn't even read Jabba's subtitles because I hadn't hit kindergarten yet. I don't know about you, but I think I'm going to be quite emotional afterward, really regardless of the content. It's just been such a long time coming. I'm looking forward to the conversations we get to have once we do all finally get to see it. Hopefully it will be good!

  1. Can't wait to see Han and Leia married and in love with their children!!!! I've been avoiding spoilers (haven't even watched the trailers) so I can't wait to come back and discuss all the great Han/Leia scenes with you guys!!

    1. You are amazing for not even watching trailers. I had big ideas that I totally wasn't going to watch them either, but I couldn't help myself. I don't regret it, though. Well except maybe the last Chinese trailer, that had 1 or 2 things that crossed a line I feel like, but still. Anyway, will enjoy talking about it in a few days!

  5. Hoping for some Han and Leia wonderful-ness but preparing for the worst. I really REALLY want to believe this movie will honor their love story.

  6. I only want to know one thing and it's also the one thing I really don't want to know until I have to know. Until then, I'll be sitting here a jittery nervous wreck dealing with on-again off-again panic attacks over it.

    1. I want to know two things but just like you said, I want to know but really don't want to know until I have to know because I know what I'm afraid the answer will be.

I'm trying to distract myself but it isn't helping. It is going to be a long few days.

  7. On another note, did any of you watch it? I did. Most of the fun of it was just knowing it was live, and then there was the annoying knowledge once that part was over that hundreds of people were then finally getting to watch it while I was just alone at home trying to sleep. The only part of it I would recommend you go find is Carrie, who takes over the interview of Oscar Isacc, and is, as usual, hilarious.

Oh, and one last thing, seriously where the hell is this Star Wars People magazine?!?! I've been looking for it for weeks and I never see it anywhere!

    1. I'm holding out hope that they delayed the distribution of the SW People magazine because of Carrie's quotes about "...Han and Leia have conflict but they stick with it..." - since that would 'spoil' whether or not they have been and are still together. If that quote is accurate, then it definitely implies their is no relationship separation (maybe just a short term physical separation due to smuggling, who knows...)

I will be so disheartened if they taint their relationship...

      Delete
    2. That's supposed to be - implies there is no separation...lol

    3. I found it a couple of days ago. There is nothing in there we don't already know and the descriptions are brief.

    4. does the magazine actually say "Han and Leia have conflict but they stick with it..." ? i'm grasping at straws but to me, that's positive...

    5. Yes, it was a direct quote from Carrie in he magazine article that was online a while back and supposed to be in this Star Wars issue of the magazine that I don't understand where it disappeared to!

    6. I am sure they are together, think about it JJ Abrams said he didn't want to alienate OT fans and anyone who watches the OT would know they end up together, their love story was such a big part of their storylines. JJ wants to make $$, think of all the couples merchandise. I think they are being sneaky and not confirming because JJ Abrams is obsessed with secrecy and "surprising" the audience.

I also don't think Han dies, Harrison has been having such a good time doing the press conferences it looks like he's made peace with his character.

Anyone think Jacen, Jaina and Anakin will make an appearance? It would be a waste not to use their established characters as Han and Leia. I think Daisy Ridley is playing Jaina.

    7. I am trying to remain hopeful, Anonymous! I recall those quotes from Abrams as well; they have to be together...i'm hoping that other Solo children will show up at the end of 7 (maybe Carries' daughter is one?)or maybe in 8 or 9

    8. I hope Han doesn't die; there are so many other ways to create an exciting story besides killing off a sentimental fan favorite, especially in the first of 3 movies...Zyra, didn't you read a long time ago that (all of)the big Three were signed up for episode 8?

    9. That bit of info was on the casting call sheet for Episode 8. They listed character descriptions they were looking for and then included the names of the returning cast. That said, it is possible they put him on there even though he doesn't actually come back. But for us non-spoiled people, we still have to wait 48 hours or so to find out!

  8. Just saw clips of Carrie on the red carpet. Omg, that woman is hilarious. Seriously, how does she do it? Give her her own to show NOW!

  9. All of my math this month for figuring out what day it is or when something will be has been completely based off of this Friday! When does my Journalism class have to have this month's paper out? Three days before the eighteenth! No joke! When's Christmas? Uhm . . .sometime after the eighteenth!

    1. Yeah, I absolutely keep forgetting Christmas is NEXT WEEK. Have I done any shopping? Nope! I have no capacity to think beyond Thursday. Also in discussing our movie plans with the people I'm going with, at least one of them this whole time thought we were talking about Friday night.

    2. Lol. I am actually ready for Christmas. I've been focused. :) It's the movie I have to remember. What is going on on the 17th? Oh, yeah that's right. ;)

    3. It's my birthday on the 17th and honestly, I keep forgetting about it! My office Christmas party is also on the 17th and some people don't understand why I'm not going this year. Somebody actually told me: Star Wars? Why don't you go see it some other day and come with us? Hummm...non, no, nope, niet.. I don't think so! lol

      Delete
    4. Happy birthday! And office Christmas party? Whatever. I honestly get a kick out of people who are like... you know you can go see it anytime later on, for weeks and weeks, and not have to deal with crowds, right? Normally I'd be right there with those people, saying I don't get lining up and needing to be the first to see it. But this is different. And honestly it'd be totally different if not for the internet and instant information and the fact that you can't stay away from any information anymore. But in this case, I absolutely NEED to see it as early as possible. I'm even kind of annoyed I didn't fly to one of those countries where it opens sooner! But in 48 hours, I'll be sitting in that theater watching it. I can't wait.

    5. Scruffy Looking, my office's Christmas party is also on THursday and while my immediate coworkers know me well enough to understand most people are like, so see the movie another day.

  10. I feel like Leia hanging out in the hangar on Hoth waiting to see if Han and Luke will turn up alive the next morning. If there was ever a time to write a fic about that feeling.... now is it.

    1. Good call. I kept saying to myself for months I should write something before the movie comes out. Because everything is probably going to change and it's like I'm only "allowed" to write the old way for so much longer. Which is silly really, but still.

I'm so afraid of the internet right now. 48 hours. That's it. I can do this.

    2. 48 hours.... just enough time to truly channel Leia's feelings... I'm writing as we speak.

  11. Just two more days until we get to see Han and Leia, the old married couple, having adventures together like in the good old days. Can't wait!

Oh and Kathleen Kennedy recently confirmed that Han doesn't die in Episode VII for those who were worried.

  12. Just watched Empire and ROTJ this past weekend, for the last time while the characters and stories are still locked in time... it was sort of bitter sweet, to know I'll never watch those movies, or understand the characters, in the same way ever again; to be able to recollect so many times when I was much younger watching the films... I'm so ready/not ready for Thursday night! Squeeee! What? Christmas is next week??? :) -E

  16. OH MY GOD. The movie is now showing over here, 12NN GMT +8 but I still have to wait on December 19 because WORK damnittt.

I am not freaking reading any sort of spoilers, but I am so elated to see that Star Wars VII currently has a 95% certified fresh critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes!!!! Movies who get ratings like that are considered to be critically acclaimed movies. I am expecting that the rating will go down as more reviews come in, but very happy to hear that TFA has a rating on par with the Original SW, and way, way higher than the Prequels.

Gosh can December 19 come in already

  18. You guys are killing me. I can't wait to finally see it and be able to participate in the discussion I'm already 300 comments behind on. I will put up a new post as soon as I can after I see it and we can move discussion there because the spoiler thread is getting out of hand.

What that means is, anyone who is still going to try and avoid spoilers, either contain yourself to this thread or just stay away from the blog entirely until you've seen it. I'm basically terrified of the whole internet, and I don't have too much longer to wait.

This will be it for me until I see it. Because, like I said, I need to stay away! I'm scared, excited, nervous, giddy.... looking forward to it but also looking forward to it being over.

I'm also going to be curious for those of you who read spoilers (and wow, there are a LOT of you who didn't want to actually wait to just see the movie) if you are glad you did or wish you hadn't. You only get one chance to see this movie for the first time. I don't want to mess up that experience.

I'll see you all on the other side!
